This could be epic! I just hope the race course is only going down the river channel. They could use the conveyor to get people and bikes back to the top :thumb:

They are going to have to build a ton of structures to make this interesting... Otherwise it's just a road race in a hole

The race keeps changing. Now it is not a dual race. Now it is a downhill race. Two timed runs to the bottom. Best time scored.

They also added a short track race. Entry fee includes both races.

This must be some sort of wisen water sinter joke, nothing say you are "so outdoorsy" than one of those cute, over paid, marketing, red and white wc stickers on your car. :) Enjoy the race.

My son and I are both registering for this event, and I am taking a trip up there before hand to check out the track per say. I know some of the people whom work there, so I am going to try to get some more info pertaining to this race. As per the course, that will be determined at the day of the race pretty much. The main thing is getting my son back on the steed after getting his foot damn near crushed earlier this year, and getting him ready for next seasons DH/FR events-races. :thumb:

This race should be one of those, World Cup Eliminator style race's for this location or even a more urban mtb dual or single slalom races. It would seem that such a high profile place like the US Water Center, in a world class city of Charlotte, with a international airport very close by, two major interstates crossing nearby, would be holding a UCI World Cup XC, with the Eliminator race and/or even USAC PRO XCT and PRO UET and maybe at the least one of those US CUP XC races. But, calling it a downhill race really?

Let's not complain about whatever they call it. They're letting mountain bikes loose in a multi-million dollar whitewater canal with fantastic ameneties and absurd viewing platforms.

They don't have to. I hope everybody just has fun...period.

++++ 1 I agree 100% with this. It's concrete, it goes down, it has features side to side and straight forward, and its fast, so what's there to complain about? Just saying.... ;)

If you want to have fun, then come on out and have fun, 'cause that's what it is all about. :D :weee:

If not, then stay home on the front porch... ;)

Trying not to be a hater but i found this on the flyer link Offcamber posted:

Note: This is a non-traditional bike race and weather will dictate much of the course. The final course layout will be decided on race morning. We encourage participants to come early on race day to practice. Plan accordingly and be ready to adapt on race day.

Received an email from the staff worth sharing:

"Hey everyone,

We’re only four days out from Rumble in the Concrete Jungle and we wanted to send out an update based on the weather forecast. As of now, the forecast shows a high chance of rain all day on Saturday. The rain causes the channel, both the walls and floor, to be extremely slick, significantly reducing the riding experience.

In hopes that the forecast will improve, we still plan to have the race on Saturday as scheduled. We will only race one channel and the other will be utilized for warm-up and practice runs. If the weather forecast remains unchanged, the race may be moved to Sunday. If moved, the race will have the same format and schedule.

A final decision will be made on Friday morning. Please be on the lookout for an email from us and keep your fingers crossed that the weather clears. Either way, we’re all going to have some fun with this one!

The USNWC Staff"

As expected, date change.... just one day, moved to Sunday Jan 12:

"As you have undoubtedly seen, tomorrow’s weather calls for rain throughout the day which will make the Rumble in the Concrete Jungle course simply unsafe for participants. Due to the forecast, the U.S. National Whitewater Center has decided to move the... race to Sunday, January 12th when the weather is supposed to be sunny throughout the day with a highs in the upper 50’s. With that being said, we hope you are as excited as we are about the first race of the 2014 Whitewater Race Series. Together we’ll adapt to the conditions and make this unique race one to remember.

Race headquarters will be located at the Trail Center. See the USNWC Virtual Tour for directions. Please note the adjusted times for race day registration, packet pick up and the course opening for practice as well as the mandatory pre-race meeting.

A big thanks goes out to Bike Source in the Park Road Shopping Center and Dick’s Sporting Goods among others for supplying the prizes for these races. Regardless of your placing, everyone will walk away with something this weekend thanks to our friends at Oskar Blues Brewery (21+).

Lastly, but most importantly, please visit the Rumble in the Concrete Jungle website to review the schedule and “Additional Event Info” prior to heading out for the race. We want to make sure everyone has the info they need and is ready to go on race day.

We’re looking forward to another great Whitewater event with you this weekend!

Best of luck,
U.S. National Whitewater Center Events Team"

Is this some sort of dirt roadie crit race? or a mtn bike race? Very confused, rescheduling a "down hill" mtn bike race do to rain in a over sized, concrete, skate, water park, looking course?
So, when is the full on UCI XC, Eliminator, and maybe 4X race going to be held at the US NATIONAL White Water Center in the world class queen city?

This race was great!!!!! The turnout was awesome, and probably more than expected. I think open men had about 80 riders! Beginner was around 30 or 40? The course was pretty darn fun. Not too tech but challenging to go as fast as you could and try to gain milliseconds where you could. The crowd was definitely a bonus too!

A few heavy hitters showed up as well! Not too bad having Jeff Lenosky there and 3 former Pro national Champions! What other race this weekend can say that!!!?

Looking forward to the next one for sure.

Call me biased, but everyone I talked said they had a blast. Of course there were some issues, there's always gonna be. If anyone that went/rode wants to post up some feedback here, I'll pass it on or make sure they see it in this thread.

As for why'd they push it back a day? The area got 2+ inches of rain overnight into Sat a.m. One the staff showed me a pic of Saturday as the rain came down, though it wasn't at typical summer day water levels, one of the guys floated down the channel in a kayak just 20 hours before the race. They apparently had the pumps running during the rainfall and all night, then scrambled to dry out by hand what they could in prep for practice. That algae residue WAS very slippery even after high noon. So instead complaining about this and that, I say props to the staff for pulling it off and not cancelling it entirely.

Awesome Photos and write up about the event!
Looking forward to this world class facility, USNWC, holding a UCI World Cup XC, Eliminator and maybe 4X in the near future.
