If you need a belt for riding bikes really hard offroad, then you are way too fashioned-out... or your MTB shorts simply don't fit.

Never say never, but I don't see belt loops coming soon. We have played with them on women's shorts though, way more requests there.
Skyline comes without liner short, as do the Sprint. ACE and RUCKUS currently come with a chamois liner.

The majority of our customers like the liner, are comfortable with it being in the package, its a small minority that doesn't want it, not to say we don't listen, but for now it makes sense.

no i have not seen the trail stuff from TLD that i can recall . if the shorts has a crotch pad or a lycra liner i put it back on the rack and look elsewhere .

k just looked at the models you mentioned not bad , still ,missing belt loops and they come with a pad that i have to pay for that is gonna get thrown out . can i buy them without the pad ?? and when do they come out and what,s the suggested cost ? also do you guys offer a winter style jacket with arms big enough to fit padding under ??

Nice to see some pockets finally on some of the shorts. Also, my old nylon azonic shorts from maybe 2002 have held up very well (also, don't absorb water and really she'd mud well).

It is not about TLD, but...I will respond.

Stik
Thanks for the response Stik.
My latest disappointment is with the GP hotrod pant. Prior to this I had the GP Beta (which came up relatively snug / just right). The hotrod I could only describe as an "enormous 34". It's probably on the big side of a 36" even (and I've put some winter chub on so far :p )

Hopefully the shop I bought it from will take the return, as I've taken the tag off :(

The Ruckus sorts come with a removable liner short with a pad. The pad sucks, it's huge, so it's wasted money to me, and I'd prefer to buy the short for cheaper without the liner.
That's what I said; I've never owned shorts with that pad & liner, and I never wanted one. I bought the Ruckus shorts, and even though I felt funny just putting the liner on, I decided to give it a try on a ride. God almighty...it makes the ride so much better. Those long climbs are so much more comfortable...thanks TLD! They also keep you WAY warmer, which is a good thing this time of year. But...since they keep you warmer, it sucks in the middle of summer.

I never noticed their stuff being pushed by online companies may be a better route for them to take to get the product out there.

sounds like some of you guys need too toughen up LOL , when i 1st got into riding back in the early 90,s i used a chamois until my 1st race in the rain i wore bib shorts and i was chaffed like crazy from the big wet diaper between my legs . have not worn one since , i may experience a little soreness after the 1st ride after a long lay-off but after a few rides saddle soreness is gone

I bought 2 pair of Sombrio pinner shorts about 5 years ago @55% off. I didn't expect much from them as they were a softer material than my old Azonic shorts. THEY HAD BELT LOOPS! A zipper and button closure, vents on the inside of the legs, a cargo pocket, a lanyard to attach your season pass to that retracts back into the shorts, two side pockets and a rear pocket. No pads or spandex. I toasted a pair this year, but still use the others on every ride.

I agree that it's their logo. But I also think their name sucks. When I hear Sombrio, I immediately think of Sombrero or "Mexican". Which has absolutely nothing to do with bikes or riding. Being a BC based business (right?), I would think something more North Shore or Canadian based would be a better choice.

Yeah, I have a pair of the older discounted Sombrio Pinner shorts also. They are tits! Tougher than they look. I did rip the crutch out of them on a backcountry foray but sewed them up and they are good to this day. Loads of pockets with closures and belt loops!

I tried some of the newer ones as I liked the pair I had, again heavily discounted. Disappointed when I found the new Pinners are just less short. They had less pockets, less fasteners, bad colors and, the final straw.....no belt loops. I returned them. Hard to run a company when people are returning your discounted stuff.

I'm another dude who has three pairs of those pinner shorts. Love em, nice and stretchy, plenty of pockets, worthy of DH or AM. Can't complain, and I primarily use one pair, the cool black ones. This is at least four years of riding now, and the fabric is finally starting to pill a bit on the outside where I sit my butt on the saddle. Still have two fresh pairs. In hindsight, with that kind of quality/ longevity I would have paid full price for a single pair and been happy, and now I'm more likely to pay full price for a quality pair of shorts.
I think one important thing to me if im going to pay full pop is to be semi-timeless with graphics and color.
My buddy has some older all black TLD moto shorts that look good to this day.

As far as name/ logo, I thought sombrio nailed it and was psyched to have anything sombrio. Hopefully they can bring it back. My 2 cents.

Mitch Hedberg:"My pants has a belt that holds up the pant. The belt loops holds up the belt. What the fock is really going on down there. Who is the real hero"

If only Sombrio could have had Specialized sue them they would have gotten the attention they needed.

Your liners (when attached) make the shorts fall down my azszs when pedaling. I use ordinary chamois (sugoi, pearl) with the TLD shorts.

Just to chime in - I like belt loops, it's nice to have the option. I can lose/gain 2 inches on my waistline throughout the year....

The fasteners that are in coordination with our shorts and the liners, is a MERCHANDISING feature only, so if a shop has them on a rack, the liner doesnt fall on the floor...they were never intended to be used while riding, in fact I cut them off once out of package. We originally had a bullet point saying that (in better english than what I write) but people wrote us to say they love the fasteners and use them, which I don't personally get, but to each their own.

I'm all for the belt loops too. I tend to be a fattymcfat, but it varies so having the option of putting a belt on instead of buying new (expensive) shorts is nice.

Plus the less Velcro straps on the shorts, the better. They always seem to come undone in the wash and chew up my riding shirts.

Yeah winter!

I like belt loops. I find that the belt line needs to be pretty tight over a lycra liner or your shorts slide down - especially during seated climbing. Many of the snap closures on shorts these days pop open under pressure, and other closures can tear or otherwise become useless over time. A simple nylon belt relieves the stress on those parts and solves the problem.

But hey, there are plenty of options on the market, so if TLD doesn't see it that way, fine.

I don't ever want to wear something extra (as in a belt) around my waist while riding - 2 layers (w/ lycra and outer shorts) is enough, but while we're on the TLD derail, the liner shorts you guys include could do with a rubber gripper thing around the waist. I appreciate that there are no grippers on the legs, but the shorts don't stay up as well as any of the other lycra I own, nearly all of which has waist grippers.

There's no possible way I would have ever known this as a single guy, but being married has some interesting aspects. In this case, you can get these mesh bags to put your shorts into so the Velcro doesn't tear up other things also in the wash. Genius.

Separate: I think the TLD waist cinching is better than using a belt. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

Have seen TLD's in the shop, but didn't notice that about the liner. The thin bit of gripper around the waist of my Oakley Ballistic's was great. Kept ye ole butt crack hidden from view. :D

My next pair of trail shorts will be TLD's though. The material on their trail shorts is perfect for all around use.

They are nice shorts overall.
Have a really nice cut and the material is perfect for anything but winter.

Ive broken two of those ratchet mechanisms on shorts without belt loops. Ended up throwing both pairs out. Kinda sucks for such expensive shorts. One pair of Azonics and one pair of TLD btw.
