I am looking at an "Ironhorse Sunday Team X 2009" Tomorrow for $1600. I nice guy who found me on this forum TXT me on my phone.

I just want a small bit of someone's opinion to go by before I go eagerly buying one of the first bikes I have looked at.

Reported that the condition is overall very good with a few dents on the rims but nothing worth replacing and some tape around the frame to stop scratching in transit as well as some expected wear and tear like scratches etc... The normal stuff.

I was told the company no longer exists but If I have no warranty then that means nothing right?

I am very interested in this bike as it seems very nice but perhaps someone can guide me a little as to the value as there isn't much information online as to the rough average price.

I am happy to spend $1500ish.

I am told that I can use any parts to attach to the frame. And that the frame is very solid and should last someone like me forever as I don't really do much but standard mountain biking and street stuff.

How does this sound?

I don't want to stuff anyone around but if it's a good deal I will probably buy the bike tomorrow.

Thanks in advance! Comments highly appreciated!!! =D

You don't get a warranty even if the company were still around. Like any old bike you need to go through everything to make sure it works especially the frame. If the bike is well maintained it a solid frame that can have plenty of life left.

Except for like 2-3 manufacturers out of hundreds, you never get a warranty buying a used bike.

Ovalized pivots is probably the number one thing to look out for on an older bike, assuming no frame cracks.

Can you have him meet you at a shop that is into DH so you can have them look at it for you?

That bike could be worth $100 or on the upper end $1500. Depends on parts and condition.

Thanks a lot for posting!

Okay, well I'm not interested in warranty at all.. It was more about the parts being available. Thanks for the information though! :D

I'll give this information to my Dad as He knows all about cars (Frame Damage and Problems etc).. but bikes we have not much idea on.

So I guess It's around the mark in terms of price if the bike is well maintained. Perhaps on the Tad expensive side.

Thanks a lot CBJ, Jm_ and 4130biker. This information is helping me a lot as this is the bike I would like to have for at least the next few years...

I doubt I'll ever need to change it unless I want to attempt killing myself again going down something stupidly dangerous :)

Or it just eventually ****s out. lol

I just want to get a good bike to last me the following years :)

Also, Any good way to tell cracks in the frame?? Should be easy enough for someone who knows about vehicle body work right?

The most common source of play in the lower link is an easy fix with bearing retainer compound. The bearings tend to last a long time and are still easy to find. The Sunday is still one of the best values out there for a used dh bike.

they really are timeless bikes.. the only rigs that are that old that i see myself drooling over when one is kept up/restored correctly.

i feel like one day the sunday frame is going to be one of those super sought after cars that some old rich guy with more money than brains bought, just so it can sit in the garage.. maybe i need to start buying them up! :)

on sundays the area of biggest concern imho would be the lower link that carries the shock. There used to be reproduction pieces made but I'm not sure who did em or if they were still available. that lower link is a pain to work on and uses a pretty goofy expansion bolt setup. check the condition of the proprietary hardware also that secures the lower link to the front triangle. it's soft aluminum and some people will go at it with a monkey wrench, I prefer to pull the crank or chainring and use a 6pt socket.

as mentioned above if any of the bearings have play to where they press into the frame, walk away unless the play is really minimal and you can get the guy to go way cheap. if there is play in the bearings themselves its just a matter of buying the kit(adjust purchase price accordingly). there's always loctite 609 bearing retaining compound if the frame ends up having some play.

there should still be bearing kits available for them: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id266.html

pretty great frames with the right shock, and there's tons of info on here about setting them up correctly.
