I want to get a "pro mechanic" style hard shelled tool case with folding wings and tool loops that I can lug to the races and set up on my work bench. Something like this:

I'll be putting a full set of tools in and like the looks of the park case but I would like a bit more space for some bulkier items. I did a quick google search and came up with some other options as well, I just want to see if anyone has any recommendations before I plunk down $200 on a case.

I use the Park BX-2 on the road and I've had good luck with it. It's survived many airports and all sorts of latch abuse from the TSA and super rushed pack jobs at night on my end. So far the only damage is some cracking on the interior bottom tray from my bigger tools bouncing around. This has no bearing on the cases exterior durability though.

Another case you might consider which also has excellent organized storage is from Pedro's.

I like the Park and Pedro's cases simply because they offer practical storage solutions for the tools we use. Some of my co-workers use Pelican cases, which seem very durable, but the storage is a bit chaotic IMO. There's plenty of ways around this by making foam organizers and tool rolls, and you'll quickly learn and love it as your own when you do that, but I've been pleased with my Park case as an over-the-counter alternative. I've never felt it 'wasn't custom' enough for my needs, or not up to the task of travel.

For a crazy cheap option, there is a Husky brand technician's case they sell at Home Depot now. I think it's like $35.

In a prior life I worked as a Avionics maintenance engineer with several different airlines and traveled a fair bit a cross Canada and few trips down to the USA with my toolbox which HAD to arrive to fix AOG aircraft waiting to fly.

I used a pelican box with plat pallets and never had a problem.

I still use it as my bike toolbox now that my new job (trains) involves no traveling.

As product manager for Pedro's, I am clearly biased toward our Master Tool Case:
http://pedros.com/products/tools/tool-kits-and-sets/master-tool-case-3-0/

That said, our current case has a loyal following and a perfect track record with zero warranty claims submitted since introduction in 2009. That said, if you ever did run into a problem, we'll replace it no questions asked. We also brought down the price for 2014. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

Well I don't work for pedros but I can tell you that I have nothing but good luck with that case from three different shops that I had run events for I never had an issue.

Also known as the Nanuk 930, with added tool pallets. Nice case.
