24-27 July: Monkeyfest, the heresy

Theresa and I and Eammon have been scheming.

24-27 July.

Not at Kingdom Trails, moving south some.

Base camp in Rochester, Vermont or real close to that.
Many wonderful trails within an hour, list forthcoming.

Some trails.

Let the furor begin.

I'll put us as "maybe", depending of what the details will be and what our vacation date gonna be, I can't see us travelling much farther than KT if we only got avregular W-E...

Crombie and I will most likely make the trek from Rochester as usual.

What are the thoughts on lodging at these different locations???

I am most likely in. Though I really like KT, and I enjoy our time up there, it's getting more and more commercialized and busy, and this drama with Burke Mtn is just stupid, not to mention recent years' exchange with the local police force.

I'd be up for a change of venue, on the condition that lodge options improve (or minimally stay similar). I'd be happy to pay more for the weekend to have better digs, but I'll probably be out if we have to camp or really rough it. With the young kid, I'm probably not going to get out as much as I used to, so I need to make it worthwhile! New trails are always appreciated, but I still love pretty much everything at KT. A shorter drive wouldn't be bad either.

Living the dream.
Funny, I was going to ping you two (John and Theresa) about this very topic this week. It's like you read my mind.

That said, Mudgirl and I are likely in. I've already cleared my work schedule for the summer. :)

one other thing-
"within one hour" begets a tighter crew. At KT, we can all leave whenever, and ride for along as whatever. If you're requiring a commute to the trail head, you've got to expect to all leave together, ride together, and go back together, or separate into manageable groups. Killington might be a good base camp for people who like DHing rather than XC.

There's something about great minds in there, but I've already had a couple of Boubon County goodness
I think it's time to give the KT a rest and explore some of the Green Mountain State's other offerings! We've enjoyed every ride we have had the pleasure of making in VT so I am certain we won't be disappointed. Plus, we might get Syd in for a Pine Hill ride (it's not too far for my folks to bring her or meet us and pick her up). She'll school us all :weee:

Indeed...I made a wish choice in purchasing a 4 pack vs. a whole growler. I have the inability to not want to finish the growler and a 12oz serving is quite good! Earl doesn't love it as much as me so I got to finish most of his too :D
Sounds like you need to practice :headbang: :D

I'm all for checking out new options of places to ride (although I do really like KT). I just hope that having Monkeyfest somewhere else and new lodging options don't drive the price up too much. I don't mind a slight increase of costs but too much might deture some of us from making it.

Would be nice if basecamp would allow for on the spot night ride. I know Peter at Millstone has a bunch of different lodging options, and camping in the same spot for people like me that likes beeing outdoor. It might be out of the average Monkey price range though. Worth asking for a group rate.

Then you would have Millstone for immediate trails access and night rides, and could hit Waterbury and Northfield.

I know I've said it 3 or 4 years in a row, but I'm throwing my hat in the ring as a "maybe". Perhaps to combine with a motorcycle trip. I'll know more as the time approaches.

Do we have options on accomodations yet? I'm willing to pay more for better digs, as long as it includes some of Treesaw's delicious eats.
