Rumor has it that the Specialized stems with the angle adjust shim set up removed will fit. You can try one of mine to see if that will work for you.

^That is incorrect. They are slightly over, 1.29" or something.

Chromag and NSB (who machines the Chromag ones) are the only highend AM overdrive stems I know of.
Syntace also makes some, but they are long and spindly.

Syntace, Ritchey, FSA (I think) and Giant, of course, many models, many sizes.

I read that Giant will dump the overdrive in the modell year 2015.
Any info on this? I am realy interested in an aggressive allmountain bike and the Trance SX is one of them. The overdrive headtube is a complete dealbreaker, though.

you could always buy the frame only and build it however you want. the OD2 headtube can still run a standard or tapered fork.

I'm leaning toward the Chromag stem. I have run their bar/stems in the past and have been pleased with the performance.

The only thing that is a pain about overdrive is finding stems. Other then that its fine. I might change forks throughout the year. No big deal to get a new upper headset.

Really? Are their reducing headsets to meet the tapered standard if I want to run a, let's say, Pike?
That sounds actually good. Never thought you can fit other forks in there.

Good to know.:thumb:

The old world
The upper headtube diameter is standard, so all you need is an upper headset with ZS44/28,6 and you can run any tapered fork.

I got my Trance SX last week and was ready to immediately swap the 34 Talas Evolution for a Pike. Turns out that contrary to popular internet opinion it didn't blow through its travel™ and explode upon hitting the first pebble and is actually a pretty good fork.

The bike itself really rips. I tested it side by side with my coil sprung ReignX, and while it's not quite as plush in the rear, i was still going equally fast and it was really composed in the rough stuff and in the air. Alas, the only thing i'd want to change is the 70mm stem, and since the Renthal is prohibitively expensive in Europe i'll be stuck with Giant's hideous options.
