It's fun for a half-day or so. Especially good if you've got someone still on the beginner side. Some of the tables on the expert line are decent sized and they do a great job of working with the vert they have. DH bike is def not necessary. If you want big lines, continue to ride the Pass. It just keeps getting better and better up there!

I'd definitely be hitting the pass, but I'll need to convince the group I'm going with that it's worth changing from Moab. We'd be there for 4-5 days of riding and they're expecting Whole Enchilada shuttles. Since there's no shuttles up the pass, a couple days of lift riding might be appease them.

Go ride Targhee for the day as well. Lift access, only 3 trails really but the black and double black are a lot of fun for a day. Both trails are about equal in challenge and feed into the same trail towards the bottom, just that the double black has an option fun drop in it. But really, the pass is where the goods are. Hit up Lithium at least once and though there is no shuttle 'service', you will never have an issue thumbing a ride to the top to get your rig and is only a 10 minute drive each way.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely be thumbing this time; I was by myself last time and climbed back up to the top on my FR bike, ran out of water and food...that wasn't fun. Think Lithium will be ride-able by the third week of June?

Hey, I will be in jackson hole for a medical conference with the gf for a few days in late June, i have about 5 hours a day to kill while she is in her conference.. So i want to bring the DH bike and hit up the trails. Will it be overkill? Which trails offer true downhill terrain? The trail map on their website looks like it has a good offering but i am curious to what the locals think. ANy other opinions, thanks.

JHMR is basically lift served dirt jumps. Targhee is great for old school rough DH.

Personally rate JHMR as pretty weak, Targhee as surprisingly very decent.

There are SO many new, big trails there (Targhee)as of last year, it's ridiculous. You need to go back. Lithium is in the process of pretty major overhauls, down below especially. Be aware that some years we aren't even riding Lithium/blacks until July, but Parallel, Jimmy's mom, and candy land should be good to go...

If you're travelling a long way to ride Jackson/Teton Pass -- make sure you check the weather first. The dirt there turns into a combination of pottery clay/axle grease when wet. I found that out the hard way last October. Man, that sucked. But I only drove 3 hours to get there. Seriously, it's not worth messing around there if they've had rain/snow.
