Pinkbike Listed: 7 Freeride Trends We Don't Miss

1. Skinnies
2. Hucks to Flat
3. Stair Gaps / Urban 'Jibbing'
4. 50 Pound Bikes
5. 3.0" Tires
6. Giant Fenders / Fork Stanchion Guards
7. Full Body Armor
Okay 6 out 7, (we'll call that 85.7%) of that list EXISTS largely BECAUSE of pinkbike and their stupid 'shore tested brah' bullshlt that pretty much defined that website in the first 10 years of its existence. Were they covering things going on in CO, Socal or even the east coast of canadia or well....anywhere else in the world* at the time going "see guys, this is what these bike were built for, SPEED, not just squishing them out while you headbutt your handlebars"

Were they doing that? No. No they were not doing that. They were a bunch of give'r eh canadians striving, longing, encouraging and promoting every one of those 6 things on that list hoping to god they'd one be thought of as 'shore proven eh'

The whole reason they can even put that feature on their webpage now is because they own probably billions (yes billions) of photos of all that shlt in their archives.

Self awareness simply does not exist in this sport apparently

You know I love making fun of me some dork ass kit licking racer fags who can't ride a bike to save their lives, but they've got no legs to stand on with number 7. :D

Thank god for kamloops, adam billinghurst and his ilk who brought BC out of the dark ages. Canadia wasn't all bad back then but most of it is pretty much defined by that list. And there's nothing more eh than pinkbike.

*if you lived in utah and know thor wixom personally through work, you cannot make fun of canada.

This is about bar humping, fender sportin, handlebar headbutting lumber queens who forgot tires roll on dirt.

Not the stench coming from your duffel bag from that unitard.

Stay focused!

The only thing those dianese suits progressed was the obvious need for calf straps so your shins didn't have to be connected to your nipples to keep some plastic in front of them.

I had a full Dianese suite back in 2003 most knee guards were crap and would slide down and it saved my skin tons of times. Unfortunately the knee guards were pretty crappy when it came to impact protection. I am still surprised how little protection people ride with these days considering how good a lot of it has gotten but I can see its not cool of course.

However nothing more uncool than list of what i uncool.

Also everything on that list at a time made sense and is part of a progression of the sport except hucks to flat.

Agree 100.3%, since the vest and sleeved vest under layers are way better in retaining cartilage around the ribs and sternum than football pads.

Had a friend blowing his own horn about his trails to get me moved up here. ...also lied about having a daily feature on the local NPR [he'd routinely call in during programs that took calls, but that was 'him' on radio :phone:] All his trails were jagged near-flat drops having you grab the brakes to stay upright or wheelie drops from a stand still. No flow, no pumping and no fun.
I spent a few days on a formal berm on a far out loop and get screamed at for over-building and messing his flow up. And that's why he works alone.

I liked that that article finally made it to the surface.

On a slight tangent: funny how hucking to flat has started to become cool in BMX in the last few years. MTB influencing BMX for the first time ever? image.jpg

Hey now, I seem to recall a certain RM celebrity gnar hucking a road gap from a N Shore cedar pier, all to impress a female spectator. :thumb:

But in full disclosure, i had my own experimental freeride phase -

• built sh!tty skinnny in backyard
• frequent weekend visitor of office parks in search of the finest retaining wall hucks
• wore armor on the outside of clothing
• roach platemail leg armor
• urban staircase molestation
• all conducted on SCB Bullit, 2.75" stroke shock for moar travels, 2.5 Maxxis Mobsters (not designed for traction), Diabolus cranks, Shiver, sh!tty Azonic bars, Mag30s, sh!tty Azonic love seat, 8" rotors, etc...
• rode/hiked said metal hefer everywhere

As for PB, I will say the current site actually has solid content now, although the forums may still be as prepubescent as ever for all I know.

Gotta find that kidwoo glory vid from yesteryear. That road gap was f'ing huge.

So basicly pinkbike trendwhoring again? While full body armor may sound silly today a good upper body suit is still a great option for people riding rocky tracks (or morons who crash all the time like me). Though I know the new standard is knee + leat + endurpoo helmet + rainbow tinted googles that protect you from the fashion police.

I totally agree with PB's splash page content as being solid, the forums are on the borderline though. I'd posted a few times recently in the past 5 years, any time before this video was what passed for riding judging the forum population.

.
See that's a failure to truly understand ;)

That was a ladder bridge meant to be hit with momentum that rolled into a perfectly fine LANDING WITH PITCH AND RUNOUT. I'll hit momentum based objects whether they're made of wood or chicken legs and snot. I have a 15mph minimum. :D

And that occurred in the middle of a zone where I proudly rolled around all kinds of dumb erector set crap that people kept putting in the middle of some perfectly fine singletrack.

I can't help the females that follow me into the woods to be impressed. That shlt just happens. It's a curse.

But I forgive you for your mistake.

That video did start out with a friend of mine geeking out on some 2x4 though. I have willingly put that into a video as filler. But it was never me......I'll always have that.

Not to mention the slew of knockoffs that basically outfit every actor on the SyFy channel for the last 15 years.
I'd say that's truly the biggest contribution to society of the dianese full tard but oh no.........there is another.

Every few years....

Every so often......

Still to this day......

You see some poor fvcker who's trying out 'this dh thing' who gets handed one of those and he shows up in the liftline wearing the full tard......

And nothing else.

And THAT without doubt is the single biggest contribution to society that dianese has ever accomplished with the full tard. I for one am always thankful.
