ok, so I'm going v10...but I've got a couple questions

SCARY

Not long enough
Coming off and m9 with an angle reducer to 62.5 , It can be a handful in the right terrain, it's awesome.
And I think the bb height is right around 13.75.

The numbers on the v10 are 65° head angle and like a 14.8 bb height!
Now I know this thing swats and squishes down into its desired angles, but is it really that far off from the m9 in its suspension that those initial numbers are so much different?

Also, has anyone put an angle set in one and how was it?

Also, thx SC for the hook up even though my shop sponsor isn't a dealer.(Yet!)

I've got a Works -2 headset and run it in the 8.5 mode most of the time, sitting a hair over 62 degrees, bb right on 14. I have the xl frame, super long wheel base (almost 50 inches). I find it runs quite different to my friend's m9, much livelier, especially in the 8.5, but definitely a handful to move through tighter corners. Love the steep tech, and high-speed open sections though. I haven't been very happy with the fox rc4, haven't found a great setup all last season, maybe looking at something different in the back this year. The fox just feels kind of dead mid-stroke with an inconsistent rebound feel, especially on longer runs.

As far as I know, the syndicate run 8.5 full time, and I kind of think the bike was designed around that. For me, the 10 feels like you're in more control, but the strava times consistently show the 8.5 is faster (maybe the lower bb contributes to this).

Cool.thanks.
I do have occasions not being in control, but 10 " mode seems a bit much.
I've got a ccdb and a db air that I'll be trying on it.Im hoping it's not TOO different than the m9.

Isn't 65°-2°=63°?
Depends on the a2c of the fork he's running. Could be jacked way up like mine

I'm also reading that it runs small.Im 5'11 and run a large m9 with a 55mm stem and like to be spread out a bit.I have no idea what the real life comparison numbers would be,but I hate cramped bikes.

Is a lg m9 about the size of a lg v10? I can't imagine needing an xl.

Completely unrelated and not to derail this thread but is it cool if I ask you about your past M9 setup via PM? Recently got one and am trying to dial it in before season starts.

i run a -1 degree angleset. i like it and have been running it that way for 2 seasons now. bike doesn't feel overly slack but feels stable when going fast in rough steep terrain. i run mine almost exclusively in 10" travel mode, as i am not a big jumper or park rider. i really enjoy steep, technical, rough fall line stuff.

they do indeed run a tad small. i'm 6'2" and i ride a large. I feel that i am kinda in between L and XL sizes. I probably should ride an XL, but i've never test ridden one. i do run the stem at 55mm ( max on my easton havoc). I don't feel cramped, but i am from the old school thought of riding a DH frame on the smaller range of what's recommended.

You're 5'11", if you're running a large M9, then a large V10c for sure.

Please post up CCDB air settings once it's dialed, I am considering one for my V10C.

FWIW I think the head angle is 64 degrees and the BB height 14" in the 8.5" mode - not listed on the SC geo chart.

Where is that thread about never riding a DH bike again and just flat out quitting...oh where....oh, oh where???
Deleted.

I've had 2 years of living a "normal" life after a pretty hefty set of injuries and frankly,if I get hurt again, it'll still be better than not having this thing that gets me excited and want to do something in my life.
The 2 things I have learned is never say "never" and that I am motivated by things in a different way than most other people.
.....3rd thing...i hate trail bikes, I only feel right on a DH bike, and if that bike is my trail bike, too..so be it. I've had 3 trail bikes because I've listened to other people's advice and I just don't ride them or like them.I should be right around 33lbs with this build and that should be perfect for me.

It is fun building up a new bike, though.Havent been excited about that for awhile.

Do you feel a huge difference in the different modes in the way it ramps up? I kind of like the ground hugging feel but would like to get it to pop when needed.i guess I'm over thinking it all since I can't even get it for another month.:)

I've got a V10.4 in large with a 50mm stem and I'm 6ft without shoes on with average length arms and find it a good fit. I wouldn't go any shorter.

I prefer the 8.5 mode too. The 10" mode is definitely more buttery over the chop but if you ride steeps and grab the rear brake, the rear sits up and shifts your weight forwards which can be quite unsettling.

I've tried the bike with a vivid air, dbair and now a dbcoil. The vivid was pretty good but not very smooth off the top and I found the rebound hard to dial in - felt like I was inbetween settings.

The dbair was smoother but it had a notch at the first 10mm of travel that knocked a little and was a bit wallowy in the mid stroke. With volume reducers in, it was much better but I never got full travel.

The db coil has been my fave. All the bump compliance and feels a good match to the Bos fork up front.

Pretty square on 6ft and ride a XL, I can only agree with above. At my height with a 50mm stem it is definietly on the longer side for people at 6ft. Personally I'd rather have a more sluggish bike in stupidly designed corners on tracks I find boring either way but then have a bike that is super stable and forgiving on steeper and rougher tracks that I actually like to ride and ride the most

Running it in 8.5 mode with a -2 angleset, CCDB> new Vivivd (guess I'm too slow). Would suggest people try it with a slightly stiffer setup, it really make you feel you can hammer anything as hard as you can.

Never tried an angleset on this bike, but highly recommend you give the 10" a fair shake.

Also highly recommend giving the Vivid Air a fair shake if you get the chance.

Just wasted 20 minutes reading this thread, but came to the conclusion i need to hang out with Jeremy Raney and the SE guys again some day...too much fun. Larry, i agree racing is fun, i plan to get out once this summer with no actual thoughts of being fast, on an old dh bike, just to see some old friends.
Ha, I remember one of my first memories when I got into the sport was sitting on a lift with you and Doug at Wolf, and the lift guy did not put Pablo's bike on the lift right. His silly expensive bike fell like 25 feet off the chair and bounced off the ground. Doug leaned up and pointed at him and said, "I realize your prize possession is your Elvis beer cooler, but some of these bikes cost a lot of money, be careful with them!"
I knew right then I had found the right sport filled with fun and rich with sarcastic azzholes like myself.
20 years later...........

What angleset are you running?
And could you measure the height of the headtube? It'd be nice if I could just take the one out of the m9 an switch it over.

64 degrees in 8.5, longer wheelbase and lower bb. If I move the fork to the top I can hit 61 but then I wash the front tire too much.

fwiw I'm 6'3" and have the xl but run a 28 mm stem. My friend's m9 is a medium and it felt like a large v10 to me.

I'm around 6'1" with monkey arms and love the fit of my large. I would not recommend an XL for someone 5'11''. Those things were made for the Syndicate beasts.
This is true but the syndicate guys have also been running custom headsets to extend the top tube even more. If I was buying again I'd be keen to try an XL with a 28mm stem which would practically make it the same reach as a Large with a 50mm stem but with a longer wheelbase. Given that I mostly ride low speed tech tracks (or high speed tracks slowly:(), the large is fine though and won't be trading up.

Running a Works. Was pretty bang on the 4,9'' as given by their site or 125mm for us metric folks.

Just so people know, a XL V10 has just about the same reach as the L Demo. So it far from an abnoramly large bike. Albeit it has longer stays and higher bb.

Yeah that "XL" v-10 is really a large. Look at a picture of Minaar on that thing, He looks like a goon riding a bike 1-2 sizes too small.

Thanks,I can't find those specs anywhere.Would any of you get a -1 or a-1.5 angle reducer instead of the 2?
62*seems like alot but I like the m9 with the 1.5
I forgot to add that I tried the -1deg cup on the 10" mode and it felt spot on but backed it off to the -0.5 on the 8" mode. The geo chart says 64degrees but when you add in -1deg in sag and a slightly taller fork, the dynamic geo is probably around 62.5 (not measured but feel plenty slack enough).

As an FYI, I am 5"11 and ride a large V10. It fits perfectly. I've tried to ride an XL, and it is definitely too big for me.

Does anybody know if the shock mount/bolt/sleeves that come on the dhx/rc4 can just be switched over to the ccdbair with no issues?

I can switch between a Vivid and CCDB coil with no probs. So you should be able too.
