Ahead of our change in forum software, I'm going to start collapsing some of our lesser-used forums together. I can't promise everyone is going to be happy, but I do want to make sure most people are happy.

Riding Forums:
I suggest we move gear-specific forums into the type of riding it covers. I mean, singlespeeds/650b/29ers, someone asked about Fatbikes... We could create a forum for every new standard.

I think we move 29ers and singlespeeds into the Cross Country/All Mountain forum. That's not perfect but it makes sure I don't have to sort every post individually. Future posts can be under the riding discipline - if it's Cross Country/All Mountain, post there. If it's a 29er DH bike, post in the DH forum.

Trials gets like a post every 2 months, I'm thinking we push it in with BMX and Dirt Jumping.

The Freeride forum isn't as popular as it used to be - should we move that back into Downhill?

Regional Forums:
The regional delineations are arbitrary. I mean, we have the South, Virginia & Surrounding Areas, and Mid-Atlantic somehow includes Maryland and gets West Virginia posts. Can we shift them to the official regions of the US?

So... Vote and post your comments.

i say merge everything that's appropriate. A person can post in the 29er forum and the only response will be from jonkranked saying how bad niners are. I'd rather see a conglomeration of xc/trail/am separate from DH/(sigh)freeride...but sometimes I think you could just call the DH forum the "riding" forum, and the lounge as the "BS" forum, and call it a day...either way, whatever lumps the most people together in order to generate discussion, I support.

Yeah - I don't want to get too nuts with lumping people together since I think the sub-forums establish their own tone and communities, and if you end up with too many posts in one forum, stuff doesn't stay on the first page long enough for people to respond. That also gets overwhelming for newbies.

Of course, you get the other side too where there are too many places to visit, so people don't actually read everything or respond to it... I think we're a little too far on that side now.

All that other stuff kinda makes sense but this.........

Trials gets like a post every 2 months, I'm thinking we push it in with BMX and Dirt Jumping.
No.....not that.

There actually is a very small group of people that keep the bmx and dirtjumping forum alive. And it's damn good theme specific content. Keep that bullshlt as far away as possible.

That's like throwing figure skating into the dh forum. Yes I know it's already just as gay but there's no need to throw sequins on it.

The answer that seems obvious from that tidbit of information is: just ditch the trials forum. Cuz if you throw that in with a bunch of dudes that throw dirt constantly, it might get impolite. And everyone already knows trials sucks just as much as it did in the 90s so why promote it? :D

West Coast forum would suck. California has nothing in common with the PacNW other than macro proximity. In fact, CA resembles nothing else in the real world period. PNW should stay its own region. It's moot point though, really . . . PNW forum's a ghost town . . . I think facebook killed it.

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. Others have voted no on the regional switch but provided no insight into why... their votes are in danger of being discounted :monkey:

I'm already moving around some of the regional forums - they're not going to be left as-is. So if you're concerned about a specific region, speak up and tell me about it.

woo, fair point about Trials, I was really hesitant about that one to begin with. May just leave it as-is.

I like the idea of merging the hell out of everything. Forums with no activity just look dumb. As far as regional, I don't care about combining some stuff, but there does need so be a forum for the south, because I know a few people that use that and that only for event info and ride info.
And if you really want to have some fun name the DH forum "Enduro with a little DH thrown in!" They will love it. :twitch:

Region 3: South
South Atlantic (Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia)
East South Central (Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee)
West South Central (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas)
I was just going to leave the South forum alone and merge VA & Surrounding Areas into it.

Well ****, I didn't look at all of the proposed regions close enough. DE in with FL? That makes no sense. Put MD, DE, VA, and DC together, maybe lump,in WV. Give western NC their own forum, and don't bother with the rest of the south.

I agree with dumping trials and freeride (at least in name).

Honestly, you could probably just cut it to the Lounge, Downhill, DJ, and PAWN.

Okay, so help me out here... why? Western NC needs its own forum? Western NC currently posts in The South, which has threads on the very first page of the forum dating back to November 2013. VA's forum has threads dating back to 2012 on the first page.

So why would grouping those together not generate a more active sub-forum while really not causing anyone's thread to get lost in the shuffle?

Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee all use "The South" forum to figure out what is going on in WNC for the most part and plan trips to here.

The VA/WV guys don't need us and we don't really need them. Our riding is pretty darn similar, but neither us nor them see the need to venture North or South of the Virginia line for virtually the same riding.
