oh man... no dirtTV coverage sucks. big time. it was the main reason I subscribed to the magazine - I wanted to support financially the awesome product they are putting out for free. Friggin Red Bull better fill in that void. Watching the race live is ok, but seeing the highlights, and the best bits that weren't captured during the race is where the real value added comes from IMHO. dirtTV and the Vital Raw cutz was what kept me going between races.

On to the race. I'm not sure why, but I'm not really stoked on this one. Yeah, it's the first race of the season but this course doesn't make me sweat like the others do. Plus, Stevies out and Minnaar is not 100%. I hope Hannah drops the hammer, and Gwin is back on form. Rachel will probably dominate.

Johannes Fischbach's bike. Crabon 650b's, lowered boxxer, looks like custom offset crowns.

We finally get to see what the slaughter looks like. The suspense was killing me. I am more excited about the tire than the 650b Enduro lol.

From the looks of the track changes I don't think these guys are going to enjoy their 29ers on this course.

so from one of the pics floating around on Vital, Troy's on an Enduro... is it a 29r or a 650b enduro? doesn't seem to have held him back too much...

650b since he's running a boxxer.

also because gwin appears to be running the same 650b enduro.

Looks like it would be right up my alley but I've been going away from low knob rear tires lately as that thing would literally last me 2weeks...i get exactly 1month out of a highroller rear which is about 16-20 rides..

larsen tt/conti x-king/ardent lose their braking traction pretty quick..its not the end of the world though because you can pick em up for 20-30$..although I guess thats all going to change when I get on the big wheels..

Hey now...

The Grid and Control versions both have a 60a durometer center tread and 50a shoulder (the info on Vital isn't completely accurate). They've been holding up pretty damn well under every test rider I've gotten them to.

^Stop buying sticky rubber rear tires?

Of course that's kind of hard to do with specialized...... They make too many gooey xc tires that roll slow and wear fast. At least in the good tread patterns.
60a only bro..

I log some serious mileage and its bone dry and rocky..

also i do too many skidz..

Our Butcher doesn't like tough meat. Staying medium rare with 50a for now.

And doesn't everyone have a 29er?

Hmm. I already have one Curtis Keene that I try to keep happy. Not sure I need another yet.

Back on topic:

Biased obviously, but pulling for Gwin (retribution), Mitch (wagon wheels!), and Troy (cause who doesn't like him?).

Glad to see Greg up to pace in timed training though. Wouldn't be a SA race without him in the mix.

/disclaimer : timed practice...means nothing...blah blah blah.

gwin fastest in the speed trap for run 1, fastest split time for run 2.

is it the new rear tire? the new sixfiddy? the new coach? EC? i bet it's EC - that dude is rad.

Gwin is messing with the numbers to keep people from realizing how frakin fast hes going! Any way to tell his time to the first split?
I'm rooting for the guy. Wasn't this his first ever WC win previously?

Minnaar is so fast here it's going to make an awesome race. Especially with Hannah going so fast- a win for him would be amazing to see!

I got around 300 lift runs on a pair of ITS Edge tires last summer and then the sideknobs were still quite fine. On 77 liftdays and 699 liftrides I only had too go through two f/r pairs. Fingers says that the advertised 50a compound is correct, the stickiness is just between a maxxis ST and Maxxpro. Actually also really impressed with its overall performance too.

Dirt cheap on Jensons too as a bonus.

How many freeride flicks?

A few, but far many more DirtTv short films. Too chicken for freeride I'am...... Can post a pic of the receipt I took out the last day its about 3m long, the cashier was kind of surprised, haha. Going for the even 100 days and 1000 liftrides this year, its pretty nice to be on vacation for 4 months and just ride.........

Back to racing, Manon Carpenter has a huge lead on women's qualifying! Excited if she'll take the first win tomorrow. Rachel still second even if she's not fully healthy.

Can't concentrate on work now, the men's qualifying is starting now and I will be checking the live timing non-stop!
