finally got to see a doctor about my hip. got diagnosed 6 yrs ago that it was the start of arthritis. well it's progressed to the point that it's pretty severe. Doc said that I could get a hip replacement now unless I want to hold off and try to live with the pain. but I've been doing that now and it's affecting my life both mentally and physically. it's tough to ride and walk. I've already given up hockey because of this and I don't want to put off riding anymore. So.... anyone out here have this surgery done? if so what route did you take as far as replacement options? and what was your recovery like? I meet with a surgeon next friday and will meet with another just to get another opinion.

I deal with a lot of folks that have had hip replacements. The common comment "why the hell did I wait so long" Those with reasonable health prior to the surgery and were will to put in the post surgical effort at PT had remarkable recoveries. Most were back at cycling, swimming, hiking etc. They found it liberating to be active and pain free again

I work with and take care of people with hip and knee replacements several times a week. Some regret it at first, but they pretty much always come back happy they did it!

it's bone on bone right now so it's not a question of getting it done it's when i get it done. i've been given the name of a doctor from my cousin who got her knee done and a former co worker who had his hip done. problem is i can't get in for a consult until late august and surgery till after the first of the year. so i either suck it up and wait and find someway to deal with the pain or find a second doctor.
