Anyone else had trouble getting Works Components to answer an email?? keep you updated on a purchase?? etc.??

I have now purchased 2 headsets from them. I sent an email with a question about installation...and no response.

I know it's basically a one man show...but since their product is a good one...I'd expect their communication to be good as well...just wondering....

Yeah, ordering from them is pretty much a two step process.

1) place order
2) eff off, it will get there when it gets there.

I never tried to get and after sale support but I am not surprised.

I ordered a headset from them and it took ages to ship (supposedly because of delays with the anodizing company) but they were cool about it and upgraded by shipping to Fedex Priority.

I've had good luck w/ them responding to email. I also have two of their headsets. Try again with another email... sometimes these things get lost in the mix.

Did you figure out your installation question?

i have one of their headsets and had nothing but great CS.

asked some questions about geometry before i even bought anything and got a more detailed response than i expected.

ordered and the HS showed up in a timely manner.

the HS did show up with a slight 'blemish' (read : small ding in the cup) - contacted them about how to deal with it and was given the option of cleaning up the issue on my own or having them send out a new HS at no charge and keeping the one i originally received. was also told that if i did want to deal with the issue and it got out of hand and the HS couldn't be used it wasn't an issue - they'd send out another.

realized some of the thin plastic spacers/dust shields they sent i could use more of - contacted them about how much to order a few and they just sent them out free of charge.

Mixed experience here. Ordered two headsets from them, a few months apart. Good responsiveness via email the first time (well over a year ago), zero the second time around after the second headset arrived. A friend has gotten zero email response as well, although neither of us have had problems with the product.

It seems as though they're the only game in town nowadays, especially when it comes to variety of fitments + degrees of offset.

We(Crankin) sell them here in Australia. 90% of the time we get immediate responses to emails. but some times they're just swamped and take a while to respond or as mentioned emails get lost. Re write to them. They are flat out with production of their chain rings at present, I know that. They're good guys or we'd not be dealing with them. Always come through in the end and do their best to make amends. They're straight up guys. We usually have to chase up invoices from them for products we've already received, nothing dishonest about them. Just flat out getting kit out there to people.
If you don't hear from them after another email. shoot us an email (crankin@yahoo.com) and we'll see if we have your angleset in stock, they'll reimburse us I'm sure.

I bought an angled headset about a year and a half ago. I had a few questions, and they replied via email quickly. Shipping was also pretty fast.

Did you figure out your installation question?
Well, yes and no! I installed the first one this spring...with a somewhat ghetto device...(not a 2x4) a large bolt with a nut and large flat washers. It went...uhm...ok. I noticed as I was pressing in the top, that since it's a fixed set up...the top piece is actually beveled, to help achieve the angle...only thing is...this means that it does not fit perfectly parallel to the headset press. While installing it, it got a bit skewed, I ended up forcing the issue and it did seat, and my son's been riding it now for several months so I think all is well.

I asked WC if the set would benefit from some kind of wedged spacer or shim that you could place against the surface of the headset, so that the press would make even contact with the headset.

I've a CC angleset on the other bike...and since the gimble is what's angled, and not the headsed itself, you don't encounter this issue.

Anyone else notice this phenomenon?!? :)

Gotcha. I don't remember if I pressed mine in using the bearing cup guides or just the press plates, but I did use a proper headset press (Park HHP-2). Mine are 1degree cups and I didn't have any problem getting them seated and square to the headtube. Since you're pressing the cups in one at a time, if you get a slight misalignment, you can move the non-cup side of the assembly slightly off center to compensate and that will straighten things up. Once it's straight, reposition the non-cup side to the center and finish pressing. That's a better solution than a shim.

In airline shipping, some parts from one of my headsets was lost. I need a new bearing compression ring. You can't buy this directly on the website, so I had to resort to email. I've tried email, I've tried facebook. Nothing for almost 2 weeks. They have no other forms of contact listed. They'll post on facebook multiple times but won't bother to answer a question for an existing customer? That's pretty weak.

Riding season is upon us and I'm getting very close to removing the headset an putting on something else.

Just use one from another headset with same bearing angle if you can't afford to wait ;-)

I would have to track one down... only have a ck (which doesn't work) and old ball/cup/cone headsets.

Maybe this can be my excuse to buy a lathe, some bar stock and call it done.

I believe the bearings they use are the same as the Cane Creek S3 headsets.* You might try a compression ring from one of those before you try to fabricate one.

*I no longer have any idea where this information came from so take it with a grain of salt.

Pfft now they didn't reply to my last email....

You're cursed
Up until this point, I haven't had any issues with them. Response was relatively quick and the product arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Growing pains I guess.

Works is literally one guy running the company and his dad running the machines. There was a PB article on them not so long ago.
Yeah, I know they are a pretty small operation. Their headsets are great. Some extra help answering emails would go a long way.

And they're going to remain that way, if not go out of business, unless they learn to actually communicate with people that want to BUY stuff from them. All they need is a web store of parts and spares, a fit guide/FAQ etc and paypal. Then they won't need to answer the phone, just keep up with demand.

Hahaha, I think you overestimate the intelligence of the average rider. I would hate to think how many retarded questions those guys get a day. There is the SHIS chart that people can look at if they search the internet but the majority of people are lazy retards and want someone else to do everything for them.

They need an app, retards love apps.

However they didn't reply to my email a couple of weeks back, I wanted to know if the bearing seat for a ZS44 would fit the EC44 bearing. I wnat the opposite of what they have on their site I want a 1deg EC44 cup at the bottom and the ZS44 at the top. Also their anno sucks, crappiest black finish I have seen since the 90s, take that!

Hi Guys - got directed over here by a customer.

Dump - Sorry for taking so long to reply - you should have had a message via FB on the 7th when I also sent out the spares you needed free of charge - Hopefully they have arrived by now?

- We are doing our best at the moment to move forward but this takes time when you are a such a small business.

As mentioned above we get a lot of enquiries regarding fitment, custom options, stock enquiries not to mention trade orders etc - Many people do not understand the various fitments available and even if supplied with info would prefer confirmation; which is understandable as it will avoid mistakes.

Thank you to anybody who has purchased a product from us or given us their support and apologies to anybody here who feels like they have been dealt with in an unsatisfactory manner.

Thanks, Rick

Hi Rick, I'll keep an eye out for the spares. Thanks!
