So, hit a waterbar and got stuck in a rut, SUV zigged, t2 with 4 trail bikes zagged. End result bent the crap out of the 4 plates that provide the hinge. Rack is 4 years old. Not a bad run. We always have handlebar and seatpost issues wen loading up bikes. It gets to be an art form on the order of loading bikes.

I can get replacements for 200$. Or I can get a new rack like the NS rack. I have the tow package on the 2010 escape with a 2in hitch.

By the power of the monkey, do I replace parts, or get a 6 rack from NS? Pros/cons of the 6 rack over the 4?

THANKS!

I much prefer my NSR to the T2 I had previously. Easier to load, the bikes stay cleaner, it doesn't stick out as far, better ground clearance etc. I would imagine you could sell the 2 bike extension on the Thule and put it towards a new rack.

I went with the 6 bike. My rig has the seating for it and I do use more than four of the mounts with some frequency. I believe the bikes are slightly closer together on the six bike but it doesn't seem to be a problem. The four also folds down where the 6 doesn't. The tailgate and hatch clear on my rig so that is not an issue for me personally.

NS racks are awesome. I will keep mine till the day I die...or sell my last bike. Only thing I can see being a problem is if you're a tiny guy, it could probably be a pain in the ass to mount it on the truck, or load the bikes. You gotta kinda lift them up high.

With your car, I think you'll want to stick to the 4 bike. The 6 really tugs on the hitch and you'll feel it. Even if you don't break the hitch, which I think you will. I wouldn't put the 6 on anything less than a full on truck.
On my Tacoma with airbags, it tugs it around. It's ok, but kinda disconcerning.

It's awesome if you have 5-6 bikes, but it you regulary carry 1, it's kinda a pain. It sticks out farther and you can't see the bike. You'll also have to do something to keep the front wheel from spinning.
Again, depends on what you're doing. It's nice to have both honestly.
