I forgot to mention that I also have an older Trek 8000, straight XT but v brakes...they still grab great, fun little bike to ride!

Just to caveat, I didnt start this to be eliteist or snotty...just want to know I am not the only guy who rides stuff til it breaks. Now who else is still rocking the neon other than Mantis?

I don't ride anything for the sake of being retro, but some stuff just lasts. The '95 V brakes on my commuter still work great, along with XT shifters from the same year that work flawlessly and are beautifully made.

These things will probably outlive me:

Still have my bmx bike I built in 2006. Only parts I have changed are the grips. My mountain bikes are all 26" with the exception of a 29er hardtail build that I have currently in progress. DH bike is an M6 and considering it has been amazing, I'll be keeping it until it cracks.

What I really wanted to contribute though is my old 1993 Cannondale M800 Beast of the East. It still sits at my parents house and my dad rides it occasionally. It is all original except the seat and the pedals, and I have searched all over my parents house looking for them. I have no idea where I put the originals, but it would be sweet to put it back to original condition.

I would kill for a new pair of those in red. I use 646s on the Bridgestone MB3, the SC Heckler, and my road bike.

Does riding in Levis count as retrogrouch?

The day I can't replace one of my 26" bikes with a similar, newer 26" bike is the day I buy a moto and never look back.
what size wheels do motos have?

all my bikes (except for my daily commuter) are 26". I even still have a 2008 Demo 8. No dork logger, don't even bring my phone with me while riding...

In hell. Welcome!
if you have thorns or arseholes setting up booby traps on trails -> tubeless is bliss
also running sub-20PSI without pinch flats is nice

I have nothing to be proud of in this thread, I am a `tweener hipster with wide carbon hoops and a 1x drivetrain. Or do brass nipples count?

I would just love to experience "sub-20PSI without pinch flats." I'm guessing you're riding buff XC.

I have no idea where I am
I've gotten 10-12 years out of XTR rear derailleurs. I got a bro deal on a new one and obliterated it with a thrown chain (thanks Mavic) after only having it 2 years. Have an XT now and it is no where near as light shifting as the XTR.

In my hick town, I'd rather be seen on the roads/trails than not, so is that form over function, or function over form???

And when I do feel tame, I do put on the baggies over the neon to "tone down the view"......

As for tubeless, let me just say that after returning from the 24hrs/Old Pueblo, I was changing my rear tire, and noticed a rather large cactus needle in it. Didn't know it was there during the event, and tire held air the whole time. So, like clipless pedals, I became a convert right then, though I am giving flat pedals a try again, and loving them.

My '94 Ritchey P-21 was delivered with GripShift.

Not putting that on my bike.

I went down to the bike shop and asked for some old-school top-mount single action thumbshifters. They were already old skool, double action was in, but someone found an old NOS package in the back room. They are still on the bike, which has been retired from off-road service, now sports 1.5" tires and is a very zippy town bike.

I sold most of my old gear in house moves. I do still have a pair of 747 pedals from 1998 that are going strong on my commuter. Those pedals have tons of miles in terrible conditions. Crank br...what?

I must be the weirdest bike shop owner on the planet (stiff competition but....).

I only have one bike, I've been riding it for 8 years now?
Cove Hummer 26" straight steerer QR goodness, hell even still with the original Talas RC forks Hope hubs and Mavic 717 wheels!
I did also briefly have a Lapierre Zesty for 2 months last year but I sold it to help fund a house purchase.
There is hope for me tho..... I have converted it back from single speed to XT 2x10 and finally replaced the original Hope M4 mono front brake and mono mini rear with New XT's.

Utterly no plans on selling it as I just love riding it so much! I'll probably crumble at some stage and buy another fully, but for now I'm happy. :)

Nevver understood the computer on a bike thing. Tried it, ended up focusing too much on the stupid thing and not on the ride...will use the HR monitor on the single speed now sometimes for HR training, but not often. Just ride the damn bike already...

Strava is the worst thing to happen to mountain biking since 29ers.
