My S4 is coming up on needing new ones. Going to do the work myself, but don't really know what I'm doing picking parts. OEM Audi or...?

If you want the quiet smooth feel of Euro brakes go with Audi stuff but it does wear out quickly. Hunting down some Zimmerman or possibly even Brembo(pretty cheap in Aus) should save you some coin but cheaper rotors than them seem to warp more often.

Pads are up to you, people carry on like idiots about them, they stop you from dying so don't cheap out.

Do you need a giant Torx bit to do the S4 brakes?

Thanks, and no giant Torx, but they do take a 7mm allen wrench for some reason.

I used Brembo rotors and Akebono pads on my Saab. They seemed to stop as well as OEM, and lasted longer.

If it's anything like my E30 BMW, it was cheaper to go with Brembo rotors (forget what pads I ran) than it was for OE. But I've always been happy with Brembo products (cars/trucks/motorcycles/dirtbikes).
