My buddy paid $16k for his 2005 6 speed.

<edit> And Like the Camaro (but not the BMW) you can buy a whole mess of parts for it at NAPA.
Also, like the Camaro (but not the BMW), 'vettes are actually cool.
Ask yourself - would The Fonz drive a BMW? Of course not. Potsie and Ralph Malph would.
But the Fonz, never.

BMWs have a lot of good things going for them, but the coolness is not one of them.
For all out fun (and as long as you've got a back-up vehicle) some sort of pony or "muscle" car is the way to go IMO.
Maybe an older Cobra, as you like the Fords. I've got a 2000 T/A in the garage for sunny days and it's a hoot - nice and loud, fairly quick, and the Fonz would approve.

That's cool, I didn't know active damping was offered in any Corvette, let alone that long ago. This is something I really wish would catch on, as it seems like the increased cost would go down with enough cars using the system. I really wish my allroad had something like this, because the suspension is too stiff for off-road or bumpy city streets, but also a little too soft for hard cornering and aggressive driving.
It's one of the ways they kept them from rattling apart like the early C4's. The early years rattle and creak like crazy.

The Corvette was going to be scrapped in 1990, but they improved the interior, added the skunk works LT1 engine, and added the selective ride as an option. When I was looking for one, I drove a few older ones and hated the interior and the first gen tpi motors are weak.

Fun fact: There were only 488 Corvettes with selective ride made in 1994.

You obviously don't live in SoCal.
:D No, thank gawd.
But even up here in the NE, you see kids into the Bimmers these days.
They pull up next to me at lights and give me the rattle-revs. I feel kinda of sad for them; things just all look like old Toyota Coronas to me. I dunno, I don't get it. But then again, I'm considering growing my mullet back, so whaddu I know?

i've got a 65 t-bird that is in the slow process of turning into something ford never intended it for. my 10 year plan is to enter it in the carrera panamericana historic c class...it should do a good enough job of moistening panties, making cholos and rednecks jealous, and melting tires at stop lights.

test drove some more minis, the wife is sold, i'm sold. they are ridiculously fun to drive, and if you knew anything about the generation of truck i have, a late model mini is a much safer bet for lower long term maintenance costs. plus reducing the gas bill in half means the house and race car will be done that much quicker...

Yep, that gen Corvette is the 1st that I think really turned up the heat on competition. No US manufacturers made anything like it or could sustain making anything like it (ford GT sizzled out, Chrysler wasn't able to keep making the viper, not to mention those aren't really competitors for base and mid-range vettes). I think those actually look good, like something ferarri might have tried to make if GM didn't get the design out there first.
Hahaha you MUST be fn high if you think that is a look Ferrari would have gone with... Sorry amigo way off

bought a mini...holy cow it is fun to drive. handles beautifully. rallied it around for an hour last night and the gauge didn't even move. and $12 was 1/3 a tank of premium...i could get used to that.

Is it FWD or AWD?

Still a little confused as to how you went from a fake M5 to Mini. Kinda like shopping for a convertible and driving away in a minivan.

Could be worse. My in-laws went shopping for a Mini and bought a PT Cruiser.

i just started thinking rationally. the fake m5 is cool, but i looked into how many issues they actually develop over the years, and the thought of getting a 10-15 year old car like that, that isn't that great on gas put things into perspective. plus most of those cars are already beat down pretty hard. the mini is 5 years old, has less than 1/2 the miles of my dd, is crazy fun to drive and gets 30+ MPG without even trying. i still have a RWD donut machine in the making, and will honestly probably end up with an old hot rod truck after i get bored with the t-bird. and those do donuts even better. while hauling quickrete and rail ties and all other kinds of ****.

Or get a pontiac G8, euro-sedan killer and easily modifiable?

lol so you bought a mini? Why not just get a VW:rolleyes:

From the front it looks good but the rear looks like the new Camaro, only with worse proportions and moar creasez. It's terrible.
Agreed. It's like they phoned the rear end in by grabbing parts from the Camaro parts bin. The front end is very 599esque

Also looks great from the side. I like the lines, but the ass end looks bad. With a full carbon body, 450hp, and 7sp at at base price of $55k, I could give a damn what the ass end looks like.

been there, done that, and worked on em in a shop too. the newer ones do not even drive that great.

i'm of the firm belief that in this day and age you can either:
a) have a car with major problems that drives great
b) have a car with major problems that doesn't drive great

What about an S4 Audi, thoroughly enjoyed wrecking a pontiac with it. Very fast and super yellow. Now I got a Miata Mazda, very fun. It goes fast enough, great on gas. Yes it has the class 1 tow hitch, pulls a trailer as if there is no weight. Top goes down on nice days, and the back window goes down when the sun is unbearable. Both are fun steps above the Jettas of yesterday, the rear wheel drive and four cylinders are nice. This is appropriate to post I feel here.

not that anyone cares, but a year and a half and 20k miles later, still going strong. I'll let you know how it fares after the first auto-x this weekend...

ended up buying an old hot rod truck sooner than i thought too...for $300, i couldn't really pass it up....
