I love these types of designs, and love the idea of re-purposing things like shipping containers for dwellings.

I wouldn't think you could pop up something like this in a suburban 'hood or anyplace with a restrictive HOA. Do any of you know anyone who's built out a home (or second home) like this?

If only they had put in some nicer furniture. I would have had the kitchen have a better view too so you could cook and enjoy the view better.

I love the ideas of earthships....... rammed dirt in to used car tires, front passive solar windows/walls, re-using water several times over for everything, water catchment systems, solar powered, space between tires filled with cans/bottles and covered with adobe.

Oh, the ideas are endless.....

I tried to sell Wifey on this idea. I now live in a cookie cutter suburb.

The lady and I have been talking about selling the house, getting a small place in town and getting a chunk of land in the hills (base of Hood somewhere) to build a cabin on. Having a nice place to get away to is high on the list. I need to get out of the suburbs for sure, but having a get away location would be sweet.

Amazing house.
:stupid:

I want something small and simple. After looking at the containers, it looks like a valid option. Some of the pre-fab stuff is cool, but I think it would be easy enough to do. A 2, maybe 3 container setup in the woods.

The best decision one can make when looking for a house (or to build a house) is to live somewhere without a HOA. :thumb:
:stupid: When I bought my first house, the whole HOA deal was such a joke. There is a big stink in the town next to use now because a dude bought a house in the rich hood and is turning it into a half way house.

Because he gets federal funds, it trumped the HOA and the whole hood is pissed.

My loft is in a old Police Station. I live on the second floor by the old holding cells. You can see where the old cells walls where on my ceiling. My Kitchen and bathroom were the locker room. The first floor was stables for the horses. The back part is an actual carriage house turned into a woodworking studio and joinery. My house was a bomb shelter for the neighborhood. My walls are over a foot thick. I like it here so much I don't think I could live in a traditional house anymore.
