Me and my mates were there yesterday. My god, these guys are hauling a$$.
Absolutely incredible.
Even the juniors had an average speed on the track of 46km/h!

Minnaar in the last chute was insane. So cool to see.
And Gwin, well for a second I thought he would also take the last jump :D

So awesome to see Bryceland win.

The event is amazing there. Tons of people, you can get beer beside the track and everyone is just stoked for biking.
The track could definitely be better, though.

But that's it!

Pics to come.

But lots of wheels looking like they had no place under the fastest riders in the fastest discipline of the sport.

I wasn't even really thinking about it but after about 15-20 riders I just started wondering why everyone's wheels looked like they weren't tracking for shlt.
Something to ponder...

the one year i was there they did have a bar setup mid mountain
You mean something like this?

Yes, that's a DJ on the truck (crappy music, but nonetheless, music) and there was even a big TV where you could watch the live feed.

Two of these setups were beside the track.

You must definitely applaude the organizers that run this event.
It puts the best light possible on the sport.:thumb:

didn't Nico win shedloads of races on wheels that were laced with the lowest spoke tension possible? didn't he say that when he was trying to hock the new SRAM wheels? I thought it was kind of a known quantity that doing so could be beneficial, but you had to true the wheels before almost every run.

And yet - gwin. Wtf?

I decided what had contributed to the wheels that looked bad was some poor suspension tunes. It looked like they could tune for the big jumps, or the roots, or neither.
Very few looked like they had found a good compromise.
It looked like Blenki really had the tune wrong. He looked like he'd go over the bars a couple of times.

Yes, the racers have their wheel tension tweaked for every race. Too stiff and they lose traction etc.
It is certainly the case for the Giant offroad DH team, I'm sure it's exactly the same for the others.

How about flexy course taping?

Tape was moved after Bernard hucked his meat, apparently. Perhaps it was also moved after practice, but before the race began?

can you imagine how you'd feel if you were forced to race in oven gloves?

Just saying..

Whoever the rims are made by will have a video out within the next week describing how awesome and bulletproof their rimz are...
