Travelling to western NC in a couple weeks and wondering if Beech is gonna be any fun for intermediate riders on 6" bikes. A couple guys in our group don't get to ride a whole lot.We were thinking a day at Beech and a day at Rocky Knob unless there's something else more appropriate and/ or fun.
Thanks.

Short answer: do it. There is something for everyone at Beech--if not comfortable on every trail at Beech, you could get bored by the end of the day just because there are not too many trails in total, but honestly, I think all the trails are available to most riders as long as you look before you leap and take your time. You may want to run real DH tires for Beech. Regardless, its certainly worth a day. Rocky Knob will be an awesome second day and certainly no problem on a 6x6.

Of course when you say "western NC" that covers a lot of ground. If you're based around Boone or if you're set on lift served riding, Beech is it. If you aren't set on lift served or are working out of Asheville, then 2 days in Pisgah is every bit as fun as Beech/Rocky Knob. Can't go wrong with those choices.

I've had two lift days at Beech this year on my Giant Trance trail bike (5in bike) and it has been a blast! The whole beginner trail and sections of the others trails seem more fun on a trail bike to me. I've been able to ride all the trails up there, including smashing the big rock garden on the 2012 Nationals track (the trail is call "Black Dog" now) with no problems.

Have fun!

The super d trail at sugar would be fun on a trail bike but I wouldn't recommend the dh trail. You will get more out of your money at Beech. The beginner and intermediate tracks are fine on a trail bike. If you want to try a dh bike both Magic Cycles and Boone Bike have nice rental dh bikes and helmets/pads if you need them. Magic rents Glories specced with lower end SRAM and Boone Bike rents Status IIs with mid/low end SRAM. If you decide to rent call ahead and make reservations. Rocky Knob is a blast on a trail bike and is definitely worth at least half a day of your time. Come see us at Boone Bike if you have any questions.

Thanks for the info, guys. We somehow dodged the rain all weekend and had a blast. Hit the Kerr-Scott trails and Rocky Knob Saturday, then rode Beech all day Sunday with minimal carnage. Also found some great food and a nicely stocked beer store in Boone.

:thumb: Glad it worked out--sounds like a good weekend. Beech has been a lot of fun to ride dry this year. Not surprisingly, the Pro GRT this weekend is going to be wet...
