a couple weeks ago, I dropped by the lbs (they had a new-old-stock fire sale) and saw a nice 2012 9kg carbon road bike that happened to be my size.

considering it was 60% off; i thought it would be a good idea (with a kid on the way; i might not have enough time to drive to mountains)

went home, put some shimano saint flats i had lying around and...... hooooooooooly ****!

with some spd pedals, I dropped like 90 seconds off my best time around a 2.5 mile loop near my house. can easily cruise at 20mph; and my best sprint so far has topped 37mph, which feels like warp speed compared to the pace on my 180mm trailbike.

roadbikes are awesome!
am hooked. any apps or cadence/hr sensors available for iphone 4/moto G out there???

nice, i got 700c bug too. Im building fixie/singlespeed roadbike sub 10 kg with steel frame and steel fork and some DH parts :) If I had to start again, CX version of Cinelli Mash CXSS looks sweet.

I picked up an old Trek road bike recently as well. They can be a lot of fun, feels like a sports car compared to a mountain bike.

And another one bites the dust...

So are your awesome pic threads of "check out these amazing DH picturesque trails" going to turn into "check out this amazing stretch of paved road"?

I have been road riding for some years now. I would rather go mountain biking but when you live in New York that is not an option on weekdays. Its still riding and better than sitting on the couch and it helps me stay in shape when I have time to ride the mtb. I highly recommend you get some sort of fitting so you make sure you stay comfortable and injury free on the bike. I've had a lot of problems over the last year due to my bike fit.

What's next, running?

The speed you mention does sound like fun.

The thing that keeps me from ever trying road biking here is mostly the drivers. They have no concept of, well, anything. Which is why I stick to sidewalks or avoid riding anywhere but around the block. :(

Road riding in Lima?
Hairball!
You gonna do those Sunday rides on the Panamerica Sur where cars block the traffic ahead and behind?
Fookin nutz...
ha!
mostly laps around the golf club in san isidro, or laps around the ministry of defense.

might venture to ride on the open highway one day.... with a pace car behind me, of course.
