So im used frame shopping. Id like to spend about a thousand bucks.. (meaning 1500 probably)

Cat 1 rider, like the rest of yall :D who goes for the KOMs but im getting older and 30 mile epics are more and more appealing..

what other frames in the quiverkiller category am i missing? Preferrably cheaper ones?

Spitfire - heavy?
Spesh stumpy and enduro - pedal like poo?
Treks - clueless..?

well the sb66 uses an outdated wheelsize, and in about 2 months there will literally be no 26" rims, tires, tubes, or brakes on the planet and you will die.

The pivot is ridden specifically by mtbr dentists but it's a dw-link so if KOMs are your game than this is like getting a patient who flosses twice a day.

butforreals the sb66 is a well designed bike that is getting blown out on backcountry, so getting a super cheap used frame or new one should be easy. The spitfire is loved by almost everybody who rides it, and while overpriced, the enduro is a dialed frame that gives a bit up in terms of pedaling to the really high-squatters, but is certainly still enjoyable.

If 1000 is your limit, I'd see what you can get and go for it. I don't think you'll beat the yeti on price. If I had my choice, I'd probably go with the banshee, but the enduro has the best 29" geometry on the market.

My wife and i both ride 26" stumpy's. I have a 2013 medium, it rides great, pedals well, climbs well, descends pretty well, all things considered it's a fun 140mm travel bike.

I can't compare it to anything you've listed because I haven't ridden any of those bikes.

I'll sell you my stumpy complete, shipped, for $2000.

The Spitfire is an incredible rig - absolutely faster than my old Nomad Carbon all over the mountain. The 2014+ frames are lighter by a fairly significant margin (0.5lbs or more), and the KS Link suspension does an excellent job of keeping the bike controlled whether you're sawing away up a steep climb or dropping into a minefield of babyhead boulders. I have mine set up 27.5 (with the 27.5 dropouts), and the bike feels much more capable than the 140mm of travel would have you believe. As you can tell, I am fully smitten with mine, but I hear the sb66 is an incredible bike and was eyeing one myself before I settled on the Banshee.

I have owned a Pivot 5.7 and sold it, have not ridden the SB66 in a size that fits me, and now have a Banshee Spitfire. I hated the super slack seat tube of the 5.7, it downhilled amazingly well but pedaling it was a chore for me. Yeti seat tubes are also too slack for my taste. Specialized has their geo nailed, I had a 2011 carbon Enduro as well but it pedaled pretty mushy. Super fun bike but I wanted more snap in the pedaling department. Even got one of them custom Monarch RC3's from Push to help address this but still ended up selling the bike. My Spitfire hits the nail on the head for geo and is a very fun bike. I have it built up with 26 inch wheels as after riding many 650b bikes, I honestly don't think it is any better and with the trend going the way it is, I was able to get a 26 Pike and some baller wheels for so cheap. But that being said, for 70 bucks I could get the 650b dropouts for the Spitfire and go with the bigger wheels. Oh yeah, My spitty is also in the upper 28lb range with dropper post and solid parts. I went XX1 so it is not a cheap build but the deals on wheels and fork helped keep the overall cost more reasonable than you would expect. Mine is a 2013 as well so prior to the weight shedding Banshee did.

That being said, I rode a new Nomad recently and am in love. I am going to sell my Freeride bike and this Spitfire and build up a Nomad in the near future. If you are size large, PM me and I could be convinced to sell a great condition Spitfire frame with a custom Avalanche tuned Fox rear shock for close to your budget there.

Spitfire love is strong in this thread. I will reconsider them.

Anyone else want to chime in on the climbing prowess of the sb66? The talk of slack seat angle has me perturbed but im sure anything will pedal better than my pure single pivot bike of now...

Ill throw the blur TRc in the ring. They are very light.. But i remember a thread in which steve (vorsprung) basically said the suspension is junk

Spitfire. Sure, it isn't plastic and it isn't the lightest, but it will outrun you down the hill..

You know you want to...

I have experience with the bikes you are asking about here's my opinions,
Spitfire. XL
I have had a spitfire the older one. (A new one with better supension design was brought out in 2013 I think)
It was a really fast bike on the downhills, it was slack and had a very low BB. It was the worst bike to ride uphill on. The pedal feedback was nasty, also the BB was so low you would get quite a few pedal strikes. I don't know how the new spitfire is I presume its a lot better. I would say a spitfire probably is not the sort of bike you want for 30 milers.
Stumpjumper Evo (aluminium) L
Had one of these it pedaled fine up hills. My one was too small for me so I never really felt happy with it at high speed. The rear CS is short so it popped around in wooded tech sections and was fun, easy to manual etc.. On fast flatout decents I never got comfortable on it, as I said it was too small for me so I cannot properly review it really.
Yeti SB66c XL
This bike felt very long at first and super stiff laterally because of the carbon, I also put carbon rims on. Took me a while to get used to the stiffness. It pedals really really nicely and decends really well too. I built it light as possible and I really love the bike, I cant really complain about it at all. I will not be selling it for a while and will shun the 650b trend for another while.
Hope that stuff is helpful to you.

Get a Mojo HD.
I'm with this guy. given that it has an obsolete wheel size it should be possible to find a used one at a good price. climbs well, descends well, and in my experience is burly enough to withstand serious abuse. the TT might be short by modern standards, but that's nothing a longer stem can't fix...

I'm 6'0 and rode an XL Rune V2 with a 50mm stem. I have shorter legs and longer back though.

BTW, it's for sale.

Your face.
I am 6'3, but long torso, shorter inseam (about 33"). I find most bikes don't quite fit right because Im hunched over so much. Wondering if the Yeti is the answer...

Woo, print them in black and white and I'm in.

I can't comment on the other bikes but I'm very happy with my 2013 Enduro. It's a great do it all (most) bike thou in in it's current set up a bit heavy for really long rides. I've got the comp model running a lyric and mid weight tires so the bikes about 30 pounds even. It doesn't pedal bad at all, much better then the older Enduro's I've ridden.

For most people a Stumpy Evo would be a better every day ride but if you like to get rowdy the extra beef of the enduro is worth it.

most current shot of my bike. Only significant chance is I've swapped the control casing tires in the photo out for grid casing butchers.
