It's wednesday. we should be seeing some media coverage of the teams arriving, and yet all I'm reading about is a couple of new bikes...

It's been such an awesome season so far, I can't actually predict who's gonna take this.

My top 5:

Gee
Hill
Minnaar*
Gwin*
Bryceland

(*not sure about these two because they will be adapting to a new bike - Smith and Hill are my wilcards)

Rachel
Carpenter
Ragot
Nicole
Hannah

in a single wide, cooking meth...
1. Loic (no dusty corner wash out this time)
2. Rats (but will do the whole post-race interview in slurred French)
3. Hill (he's only allowed to win here post injury and riding for a company that has been committed to racing for "20years")
4. Broz (has the pace and form to win anywhere, but his gigantic trucker hat gives a sore neck which costs a second or two)
5. Man of Stihl (steadily finding his speed, but with no grumpy Gee on the hotseat, he just can't quite find the extra motivation needed to win here)

Ladies -

1. English girl
2. English girl
3. French girl
4. French girl
5. MMike

borcester rhymes
1 Gwin
2 Gwin's other half of his seat mast
3 Gwin's second chainstay from the last race
4 Gwin's square axle
5 Brosners

The new bike is that fast. It's flickable and planted. It's playful and stable. It makes pizza and it's lactose intolerant.

That new 650b v10 is interesting. They managed to take the most classy and aesthetically pleasing frame on the market and somehow make it like ugly beyond all sin with that paint job. That's almost a level of dedication to making something that should be beautiful ugly that rivals Giant's.

Also,

#1: Gwin. Because even though I live in Canadia now, 'Murica.
#2: Gwin. Because he's gonna stomp it that hard.
#3: Probably somebody like Neethling or something stupid.
#4: Also Gwin.
#5: Nico, because he was bored.

Predictions:

#1: Minnaar. Who has been secretly paid by the entire bicycle industry to sandbag the season until he magically switches to a 650b bike and destroys everyone

#2: Gwin. Suddenly discovers that half a seat mast works as a powerful areo rudder when hitting MSA mach chicken speeds

#3: Kyle Strait. Because MSA is within Lyle's striking range and he has figured out how to gap the entire course straight out of the starting gate.

I only do podiums 3 deep.

Reading the vital power rankings gave me a thought. Brannigan. How he's not on anyone's radar is surprising. Dark horse here for sure.

Probably because he put up a #2 like 2 years ago and hasn't done anything particularly remarkable since aside from an occasional top 10, where there are easily 7 riders that could take a win right now and nobody would be even a little bit surprised (Gwin, Gee, Minnaar, Bryceland, Tbro, Smith, Bruni)

I hope so. Didn't he do very well here last year? I feel like it's his time to shine.

Barring another mechanical, I do feel like gwin will be in the top three. I feel like a dark horse is going to win though, somebody who hasn't been at the top yet.

I guess his 5th place at the last world cup doesn't count then?

goddamn that course ride with Claudio is sick. Those ski run sections are really boosting overall speed. Even on go-pro video that tend to make the terrain look flat and the action slow, he's going like mach stupid into those wooded sections.

Cant wait for practice/quali/finals videos...gonna be hella fast!

Timed practice just ended and the skies just opened. New top section of the course looks great. A few new lines in the woods.

My prediction:
Rat
Gee (pending outcome of X-Rays!)
Minnaar
Gwin
Loic

:stosh: for Stevie

Still, the track looks sick - can't wait to hear how things go in quali's today. Sounds like it will pretty wet today, so I expect Hart, Hill and Blenki to make sexy mud love (to the track....not that there's anything wrong with, umm, the other kinds of mud love...oh well, no-context thread here I come).

we will see with Gee

" Gee Atherton took a big fall in the rocks this afternoon and went to get x-rays during TT. It's not clear whether he'll be able to race, but he'll be heading up the lift tomorrow with a wrist brace to find out."
