i have a feeling gwin is the new peaty when it comes to worlds....
Not to take anything away from Gwin's 10 WC wins but on the Worlds level he's not on par with Peaty. Peaty was a contender for like a decade with 2nd almost every year and just outside the win. Gwin wasn't even in contention today nor ever really has been at the Worlds. I'm not really buying that he's back just yet, Hill is but Gwin's got some more to figure out before he's regained what he had.

Bryceland is such a funny guy. I feel like he missed his calling as a rockstar or pornstar and it's just coincidence that he's good at DH.

Hill clearly back to all 110 of his 110%

he got 2nd at 4 worlds, that's hardly almost every year. and 3 of those his time was closer to 3rd than first.
my point was i think for someone with his results and ability, worlds will elude gwin for a big part of his career.

2014 World Championships: The race of if(s)
If Hill hadn't crashed, if Bryceland hadn't broken his ankle, If Mulally hadn't broken his chain !

I'm not sure Gee's run was the worthiest of a Championship win but one thing is for sure..the clock doesn't give a fvck!

I really can't get over Neko's run. 99.99% of the time, two pedal strokes in, chain breaks and your day is over both physically and mentally. The fact that he just pinned to the end, kept his focus and raced basically error free is unreal, especially on a course that punished every lapse in focus.

Unreal Worlds!!!

If were talking shouldawouldacoulda's mullaly. you know, what with the "not being able to pedal" thing. But were not, so instead a big congrats to gee, that was a great win and a big congrats on his second rainbow jersey. Also congrats to bryceland and tbro, who both podiumed for their first (but probably not last) male elite podium.

I'm still stuck on mullaly. That was absolutely unreal to be that close to the win with no chain for the entire run. Such a fun race to watch, and already disappointed we have to wait 7 or 8 more months for the next race.

"Neko will quickly become the main guy at TWR, Brook is old news and can't keep the pace."

yeah, remember when I said that?
Yep, a 5th at worlds is pretty bad, (Looking at you Brook, get your sh¡t together or go home), and nobody has ever had a good race at worlds and then proceeded to do nothing special again (Hart, Spagnolo, Graves). Not saying Mullaly sucks, just that beating your teammate by .8 seconds at one race doesn't necessarily mean they're old news.

Oh come on man, clearly Neko was on another level than not just Brook, but just about everyone else there. Brook didn't just get beat by 0.8, he got beat by 0.8 by a guy with no chain. This isn't just an anomaly, the kid also got 3rd at one of the hardest races in recent memory with a crash.

Tip for Neko, don't smile on the hot seat when a guy comes down with a crash(Sam).

Replay, try just clicking on the video window, should play. Atleast it is for me on a PC with Chrome.

I'm of the opinion that Neko's result was because of the dropped chain, rather than a missed opportunity for a win. After that first 10 seconds and the devastating moment of the broken chain slapping his ass in the air, his run became about the pressure being off and just going for it to see what he could do.

He's a young guy with a long career ahead of him, and imho he needs more "seasoning" / experience for the mental aspect of podiuming consistently.

Still, after discovering that New Zealand has 1/2 the population of New Jersey but still can field a much deeper World Champs roster than the US, and considering how good the guys who didn't make the GB team, are... this is a good result for US and somewhat surprising.

I'm in agreement. It was the first thought that came to mind when he looked down; no pressure, do what he can. The way he railed those berms near the middle of the course was a sight to behold.

i understand that and i also understand that together with the stats they can tell a story.
my initial comment had nothing to do with either honestly, just stating that i felt gwin and worlds would be a long, hard fought win, similar to peaty's chase of the title - two extraordinary racers who accomplish more than most with the exception of that one win. and this isn't a dig on gwin or peaty, just my thoughts after the race.

Now that racing season is over, I'm predicting some gigantic blocks of text about why X racer is amazing or not amazing. That nobody but the poster will read. Followed by moar giant blocks of text in the form of a rebuttal as to why racer Y is way better then racer X.

Can we get a longer WC season?

Ok, fair enough, but in order for Gwin's fight to be considered similar he'll have to continue chasing it unsuccessfully for at least another decade yet.. Personally I'd doubt very much that Gwin will still even be racing WCs when he gets to the age Peaty was when he finally won world champs.. let's compare our thoughts again in say 2025, eh? ;)

I am predicting Dirt to publish an article by Steve Jones that claims that these Worlds have clearly shown that 27.5 is superior as 100% of the podium spots were taken by riders on the "faster wheel size". :disgust1:

So did Bryceland's pedal snap off, or did he just have to put a foot down upon landing to stay upright? Couldn't tell from the live feed with the spectators in the way... also, do you think the other guys feather the brakes before that hit, or was he just going that much faster? Either way, be hucked the sh!t outta that thing!

I think we'll know soon enough since the UCI only lets video guys film the bottom of the course during finals. I'm sure everyone got it. I thought I saw a little white thing fly above his head on the first hit.

where the trails are
watched the replay again ... Sam Hill is going to sore as fvck tonight. That crash was scary.
Brosnan's run was on fire, nicely done! I have to wonder was Bryceland was thinking boosting that table like that. Hope the carnage isn't too bad.

Rat sure blew it in the mental game, forgetting to squash that jump. Such a brutal landing, and he will be kicking himself for that mistake and obviously paying for it physically. What a weird ender to the day, really.

My first thought was that he had broken the V10, and I was perversely looking forward to the controversy of that sort of failure at that high stakes moment.

Very excited to see what his 2015 season will be like. He wouldn't have been my first pick of the "new gen" guys of the last 4 years to rise to the top and win overall, and I'm stoked to be wrong.
