Intel requested on Berlin, VT

Since this subforum gets the most traffic and a fair number of you guys are from the NE / New England area...

Intel wanted on Berlin, VT just south of Montpelier. Good place to live? Cost of living? Thinking of applying for a job there.

Seems to be situated roughly equidistant from Stowe, Sugarbush, and Burke. Being a biker who also snowboards, this seems ideal.

Thanks

You'll be smack in the middle of a very small town surrounded by farmland and forest... but defn good bike/snow around.

And Burlington within easy striking distance if you want urban amusements...
Just for some perspective, burlington has a population of ~42,000... and is the biggest city in Vermont. So it's probably going to feel quite different from northern Virginia urban.

It is bittersweet for me.

I am regretfully and with great difficulty walking down the path of separation/divorce. I just hope my kids (2 and 4) will forgive me. While they probably don't fully understand, I hope to minimize any detriment. They will remain with their mother in the DC area.

I have always felt more at "home" in the mtns. This will be a fresh start I hope

East side of what?

Zillow has parcels of land for sale ranging from 10-200+acres near town that seem very reasonably priced. Be cool to build a modest 2br recycled shipping container house and use the land for riding/shooting/fishing
Why build a shipping-container house rather than a small/modest traditional?

Since its a new build I thought it would be faster. I like the uniqueness. I am not a fan of the prefab/modular homes. But I'm not chosey. Just something 1000-2000 sq ft. But must have garage. A small deck would be preferable.
Guess I don't know too much about building, but shipping container doesn't sound like the best material, particularity when it comes to insulation and moisture control. Winters are long and cold. I'm also not a fan of prefab/modular. It just seems like the cost to build a traditional foundation + wood-frame can't be that much different from going the pre-fab or shipping container route.

Dude, that's a long, long way from your kids. Can't you find the rural lifestyle you want closer to DC?

Not judging but you're not going to be a part of their lives living that far away.

SCARY

Not long enough

This^^^.Also, not judging. But, you really are going to regret being that far from your kids.Even more important, what it will do to your kids.
Regardless of where your relationship is with your ex, those kids need their dad more than anyone will admit.A mom is not a Dad and they, contrary to modern belief, cannot do it all.
Best of luck with all of it, it's gotta be a tough spot

im in the same boat.. but my state of choice is NH... in between maine ( my favorite state ) and mountain biking everywhere... and i love gnarly winters. just need to find a somewhat populated place. I dont want to turn into a fuggin hermit.
welding and machining jobs ( more welding ) are easy to find, according to my Monster account, craigslist, jobs.com and shet.

did 2 days at highland this weekend and it was so much fun as usual... but fuk the 4 hour drives
