I have a POC Spine VPD 2.0 Jacket which I find to be a bit bulky, and I'm looking for something more low profile.

What do people think of the Scott? Any other low-profile suggestions out there?

I am using it coming from a Dainese Safety Jacket. It is definitely low profile, however has only fairly minimal shoulder and elbow protection and nothing for the chest. It is better than just riding with a spine protector (which is fairly substantial in the Scott). I use it mainly for local tracks or when I have to pedal to get to the spot, but on fast and rough DH tracks I stick to something more substantial. What I am missing most is the chest protection as the lack of it resulted in some painful situations.

for DH I wear this in short sleeve.

https://www.troyleedesigns.com/products/5233-02

Can't find the short sleeve on the TLD page, wondering if they stopped making it?

I find it breathes pretty well, I also wear the matching shorts.

I haven't tested it extensively, but it's comfortable and doesn't ever feel bulky or bother me while riding. It's my first committed attempt at wearing any sort of body armour outside of my knee pads and Leatt. Previously I have tried on some of the older more bulky 661 shirts with full on plastic plates and such, I've tried some elbow pads, etc. and haven't been able to convince myself I can tolerate the bulkyness.

I've had my eye on that shirt, and I've even fondled it in person at the shop. My only hesitation is that it looks like it would be a major PITA to take off, especially after a hot, sweaty day. What's your experience?

Thanks for the feedback. I've actually never had a crash where I needed a chest plate, although it only takes one...

My experience is that it is a PITA to take off. Each and every time. I've gotten better at figuring out how to best get out of it. It does help to wear an under armour shirt or similar under it.

That troy Lee short sleeve version is fairly popular around here. I have one, consider it the best compromise between comfort/breathability/protection I've been able to find.

I think it is a good compromise as you state. It's a PITA to take off, but nothing that I consider a deal breaker what so ever.

The TLD stuff didn't give me the feeling that it would protect me much if I ate it in a rock garden with it on. Seemed more like moral support than anything else.

That EVOC looks good except it doesn't appear to be neck brace compatible. Maybe the top is much thinner then it looks. I don't understand why this is so hard for hardware manufacturers to figure out. I tried on just about every piece of short sleeve upper body armor this summer and nothing met my basic criteria:

- Protection pads that stay put (most designs just rely on the fit of the shirt to keep the pads in place instead of using straps)
- Neck brace friendly design
- Spine protector that goes all the way down the spine (short spine protectors that go to mid back seem to be a thing now)
- Protection pads that will actually ward off a blow - i.e. 3DO etc or plastic. Foam doesn't count.

Bonus points for being lightweight and cool

Yeah, I have it, and it is pretty minimal, but it works pretty well. it's not Dainese pressure suit level protection, but if you want that, get a Dainese pressure suit.

All they need to do is replace those foam pads with D3O or similar, and extend the back a little farther down.

The search for the one piece of body armor that does it all - minimal, yet still protective - is damn hard, a lot like searching for that one bike that does it all.

I still stick w/ my 661 Core Saver. Back, chest and shoulder protection with a kidney belt. I don't find it very bulky and still gives my arms 100% ROM.

I've taken some hits at northstar wearing mine under a jersey, and was generally OK with it. some of the key pads (e.g. shoulder) on the TLD have an outer layer that is dense and hard. the abdominal area foam is just reasonably dense foam but was still enough to help when i got jabbed by the end of my handlebar.

I bought mine at the advice of one of my buddies who i ride a lot of DH with. He crashes significantly more often than I do. He still get's some bruising (and it's really cool looking because the foam has holes for breathability and you can see the holes in his bruising) but I am certain on 2 or 3 of the crashes that I've been right there with him for that he would not have been riding the rest of the day with out the TLD Shirt.

It's definitely not 661/dainese/#footballshoulderpadshirt like some of the others, but then again its comfortable, breathes well, and doesn't restrict movement at all.

i like some kind of straps on my pads helps them stay in the right location during a crash, slip-on stuff i find shifts too much , on the initial impact and not offering the protection area it,s designed for on further impacts . my last big crash over the bars i somersaulted a few times the protection was there for the 1st hit and then it slide and provided little protection .

wishing i had the EVOC jacket my shoulder is still causing issues and it,s been several months since the crash , aaah the joys of riding LOL .
