I use my 42t cog because I have a previously broken spine and am 4 knee surgeries deep, and am hence, now a fragile little buttercup.

I use the 10t cog because riding slow downhill is worse than cancer in your pupils and overall would make me a bad person on the inside.

Why oh why oh why, does shimano not cater to me? I have an audi and a roof rack for fuck's sake! I'm important!

Seriously though......sram still kinda wins. Even if their stuff isn't 'titanium' colored or whatever that is that makes it looks expensive.

So, a rear der that will actually pull into the 11th cog without fresh everything, brakes that are solid, great 2x gearing, good 1x gearing and cheaper prices. I'm down. The 3x is silly though, I guess touring mtb need a 22-40 low gear.

It's the first new product shown this year I actually aprove off. Shimano guys are slow as hell but when they make stuff it works.

I'm looking at cranks and brakes, look sweet.
Brakes look nice and black, but is there any functional difference to the current ones? From what i can gather the only distinction is a little less weight due to the one-piece master cylinder.

The main difference is you will be able to buy the old ones cheaper ;)

i don't know but I heard reliability problems of previous xt brakes and you don't simply fix it by a re-bleeding, but sending it back and hope that the new one you get back is working . Unlike the much older models as M800 Saint..

Will the magical numbers M8000 fix it?

Looks great, my only gripe..it looks like they changed the i-spec thing AGAIN. i-spec type c? I guess if you don't piece together bikes with parts from different model years it isn't an issue.

In hell. Welcome!
Nothing in the new Shimano group set makes me want to upgrade from my current 1x10 conversion. I like my i-spec mounted Saint shifter, the Zee RD with a RADr cage shifts just fine across the whole cassette, I get the same range but with an ability to run cheaper and more durable 10sp and 9sp chains, and the chainrings on the new XT look very meh (no direct mount rings, no N/W). If I was getting a new bike, I'd rather get a SRAM 10-42T with an XD driver.

the OEM market will decide if its too little too late, but it will all come down to the group pricing in pre-builts.

+brand loyalists will do their thing
+mainstream will buy whatever is spec'd on their favorite frame at the appropriate price and it won't matter.
+the product-savy early adopter types will sell XT cranks for RF cinch, use the no-downside XD cassette body, swap for sram 11spd, and keep the xt brakes.
+the "good enough" crowd will keep riding their 10spd step-up cassettes with RadR derailleurs and laugh at everyone else.
