Update on Gee's Lourdes injury: http://www.vitalmtb.com/news/news/Gee-Atherton-Lourdes-Injury-Update,860

So apparently he indeed had a broken scaphoid, but probably not from that crash... Is this a possible sign of overtraining? I know people say he has the charisma of a tomatoe (I've probably said it myself a few times), but I also think his work ethic is inspiring and his talent is deep. I'd like to see him succeed, but it seems he needs to back off a bit no?! /armchair quarterbacking.

get well soon Gee!

That's rad news - great track and venue.

So on the injury front, healing vibes going out to Myriam as apparently she broke her collar bone recently, which obviously will put her out for Ft. Bill, if not some of the races afterwards. Staying with the pinner lady theme, hopefully my long distance GF (Mrs. Tracey Jackalope) is well on the mend after her shoulder ouchy and will be ready to Kill Bill - but that's not exactly a great track to be coming back from a banged up shoulder.

Guessing Hill is out, as well as Peat - although it seems like he might have been riding at the Swiss track he's been involved with recently, but it may be some dated footage. Seems like a short turnaround for an ACL recovery, but who knows, between regular applications of Stella and scotch, he may be cycle ready.

Any updates on Smith? Ankle injuries can be an absolute bitch to recover from, so hopefully its not as serious as his last one.

Seems like Gee is back in form with his recent top showing at BDS, and it sounds like the Rat is also riding strong given his result (apparently the FSM gave the place a serious golden shower right before him and Broz dropped in).

Btw, anybody have any idea what the UCI would do if they had another crazy high wind issue for the race? Apparently they had to shorten the course for the Rose BDS event, and the lift wasn't operational, but I can't imagine that'd be an option for a WC event. Hopefully it won't be an issue anyway.

hmmm thats weird i also have a long distance GF Ruxer Seagrave :p

pushing bikes up at a WC would be quite nuts... especially at a long course like Bill

haven't heard anything from smith except this picture of him and the devinci guys at whistler on opening day

and i think its dumb to talk about but someone asked in the comments "Sooooo were gunna see you at WC 2 then?" and stevie "liked" it...... so idk

Do you think he meant to drop those stairs? It almost looked like he tried to pump down them but had too much speed and accidentally hucked em to flat. I hope he is ok! :(

Edit: just read the vital caption...

ings took a turn for the worse in China. Kelly McGarry gets into trouble trying to slow down for one of the massive stair hucks at the Tianmenshan Red Bull event, and ends up taking a massive huck to flat and detonating on impact. From Kelly himself: "Hey team thanks for the messages, I'm all good, munched my foot a bit and got two cuts on arm totalling 7 stitches. Brakes cooked and pulled to the bar half way down course ( 1000 ft of 50 degree stairs + 97 kg bloke at race pace) ...was on a runaway train ...Scary moment for sure .Stoked to be ok. Cheers".

So the Orange 324 announcement also included a cryptic message that Alex Bond was off the Orange team and replaced by Isak Leivsson.

http://dirtmountainbike.com/news/isak-leivsson-joins-the-dirt-orange-team-and-theres-a-new-324.html

“For reasons we cannot discuss, unfortunately Alex Bond will not continue racing for The Orange Dirt World Team this season. In his place however we now have on-board Norwegian National Champion and nac-nac king Isak Leivsson ready and raring to give the Orange a good ripping.
Aboard the brand new Orange 324, Isak will be joining the team for the remainder of the season.”

Anyone know what's up with that?

Anyone know what Damien Spagnolo is up to this season? Still with Mondraker? He sure looked good in 2013, I'm hoping he's healed and has a good head this year.

I think he quit racing as far as I know. Nasty wrist injury...

Bummer because he was a guy who could deliver insane runs if not for his bad luck...

What is the deal with helmet sponsors? This year Josh Bryceland no longer has Monster Energy (as World Cup champion you'd thing his helmet would be one of the most valuable ones out there) and Danny Hart is no longer with Rockstar. How much are these sponsorships actually worth? Maybe they are not that big a deal? Did these riders get dropped, or did they drop the sponsorship because they think they are worth more than what they were being paid? I've always taken a Red Bull helmet as being instant recognition that a rider is making the big-time (such that it is).

A friend of mine had a Bull's helmet in a time when it was the only softdrink head sponsor. They paid pretty good, but it wasn't all for the money but for the support you got from them. Think access to the most advanced trainings facility available (Lindsey Vonn is there, the NHL players playing for Red Bull Slazburg during the lockout were there), trainers and medical staff.

Don't know what its like today as the silver-blue helmets are popping up everywhere. Do Monster and Rockstar even have such programs?

My theory is they eventually get around to actually tasting their drink sponsors products, slightly vomit in their throat, then discard their fancy painted bike hats.
