nice job congrats on the grant , as for $100K and CNC,s that is not going to go far , tooling can be double the cost of the machine once the dust settles .

if i was in the market i might look for a DOOSAN or OKUMA . we have 3 DOOSAN turning centers at work and they are alot nicer to work on then the HAAS i ran at another shop .

Haas is easy to lease in USA though, it's a good option. While you're leasing the Haas guys come to do repairs. We do that for milling centers and stock feeders, we also bought a TL1 lathe for 21k used, and that thing has been flawless for ~7 years running full shifts.

Something else to consider is that a big company like Haas has a tailored MasterCAM package that generates Gcode for a given machine. I'm not a sales rep and don't know all the other options, but we've had a good experience.

Last unprompted anonymous advice-- keep your machining centers busy. If you've made all the bike parts you need for the month, start running the side jobs you have piled up.

with a HAAS as soon as you start adding options they crank up in price and are close to what a DOOSAN or OKUMA would cost , as for MasterCam and the likes they all have posts available for them and there specific model .

as for the TL,s they are a decent machine , if you are running one with a 4 post turret they are a little $$$ maker for small runs needing limited tool changes , and IMO asset in any shop .
