Know any machinists ? Maybe it's possible to have an 200mm-180mm adapter made.

Or dig through your parts bin and anyone else who'll let you, and see if you can make another brand adapter work.

Man that is totally what I was going to do.

But it can't be done without boring out the top hole deeper in the lowers.
I'm not going to do that to a brand new fork.

I did learn that park dt 4 and dt 5 tools exist though. And given how annoying it was to setup a new and pretty damn straight rotor, I think I might need them for their intended purpose anyway. Shit just ain't right here.

Just pour some used motor oil on your brakes. It'll weaken em up AND quiet em down. You're welcome

This is it. Assuming the material is there, mill down mount, drill, tap, helicoil the holes because you're already paying a machinist.

Once I started working on motorcycles, I realized that you can pretty much get a machine shop to make anything fit anything. Bicycle stuff is more delicate, of course, but no reason you can't make this work unless Fox didn't leave enough material to hack away at. I mean, precisely remove metal from.

Hmm....I have '15 Float 180mm and the mount is 180mm. Maybe see if you can trade lowers with someone, or buy a used '15, swap the lowers and resell?

You're right, each 'version' of lowers has the mount in a different spot. The 180mm version is higher up.

Using science™ I held up a 180 to 200 adapter to the post mounts with the top face of each lined up. I'll actually end up taking most of the material off the top one, and very little off the bottom so it will also kind rotate it around and down to fit the smaller rotor. There are some small differences in the face angle with the adaptor that I'll have to duplicate. Gotta figure that one out.

Thanks for the help y'all!
It sounds like you've decided against doing this, but if someone else is thinking about it, if you machine one post shorter than the other in order to rotate it, you're likely going to have problems bolting it back into place since the bolts won't be close to perpendicular with the brake mount flanges.

That's what the wobbly washers from a +20mm adapter do. But the fact remains that the 200mm post mounts can't be shaved down to get the caliper anywhere close to where you need it, the caliper is positioned as high as possible in order to keep it close to the fork leg. You could however make an adapter that moved the caliper lower and further away from the leg, however is suspect it would result in a lot more flex than Mr. Woo is currently experiencing with his boost approved rotor.

I liked the fact that you removed 2 bolts and that's it. When you want to put them back on, you tightened 2 bolts and you're done. No bullshit trying to realign the brakes. Also, when using an adapter, you didn't have to remove the caliper bolts to remove the adapter bolts...

I don't know what I like better: boxxer hack guy, or tapered fork in a dirt jumper man. Maybe someone needs to start a thread on these atrocities

Sketch is fine. I ain't got no CNC yet, so if I make it it would all be by hand anyway. I may model it just for giggles. Curious to see how complicated it is.

Actually in the process of trying to figure out which CNC vertical mills I can fit in my garage.

Oh that's fucked way worse than mine was

If any actually gives a shit (hi udi!) I had a brake piston that wasn't retracting forcing me to put the caliper way off to one side. RotorS were rubbing on the caliper body, but only big ones. 180s were fine.

And if I could face the fork down to run a 180mm rotor I would!

Its been like that for a while now too. :headbang:

But the pads have been so low that it hasn't rubbed much, until the last week. One side of the braking surface is black from god knows what. I picked up some of the new Sram rotors and am pretty excited to have silent brakes again.
