I'm going to jersey for work next week and planning on riding blue mountain on drive out there on Sunday. To anyone that's ridden Blue, should I take my old DH bike or my coil shock trail bike? If I take the trail bike, and have time on the return trip a few days later, I may try to get a quick ride in at Raystown or somewhere else close to the PA turnpike.

DH: M6
Trail bike: Carbon tracer w/ a pike and jade.

I've ridden everything at the local mountain, 7 springs, with my tracer including the new trail, KT7, on the north face.

I'd take the Tracer, especially if it meant more riding possibilities.

I rode my Spitfire at Blue this summer, and rode everything I used to ride on my TR450.

I've ridden blue on both kinds of bikes, and I definitely had a better time on my dh bike. Actually I've only ridden my trail bike there for an enduro. Blue is very different from 7springs, its rough on you. You could certainly have fun there on your tracer, but I bet you'd have a better time on the m6.

More riding opportunities is what I was thinking. The M6 is also 26" = totally unridable. Plus the tracer is much more fun on jumps.

But they rent 26" glories. Does the 100% efficient suspension make up for the unridable wheelsize?
If it's not too far out of your way, mountain creek has a lot more stuff that'd be fun on a trail bike.

You will have fun on either bike, but will probably enjoy empire more on the tracer. Just make sure you bring some dh tires for blue. The rocks are sharp and will make quick work of lightweight tires.
Raystown is a blast too if you bring the trail bike. Lots of elevation but you never really feel like you are climbing.

You have some options.
1. Bring your Tracer and ride Blue and Raystown.
2. Bring your DH bike (better for blue, but not mandatory) and rent a hardtail/rigid for Raystown. The shop there (Rothrock outfitters) rents them, but you may have to check their hours.
3. Bring your Tracer and ride Mtn Creek and Raystown.
4. Bring your gear, rent @ Blue for $75 I think, ride your Tracer at Raystown.

I'm coming from the Pittsburgh area to North Jersey. I have ridden Mtn Creek before and was originally planning to ride there this Sunday. However, I have never ridden Blue Mountain and decided to check it out.

I've been impressed with what the Tracer has been able to handle. The new trail at springs is unlike the rest of the mountain. Its steep, rocky and technical. Its more reminiscent of Snowshoe.

I have ridden Raystown before and just stopping on the drive home was just a thought I had. I don't get ride as much as I use to so I am always trying to find excuses to ride especially when traveling. The detour would add about 45 minutes to an hour to the drive.

I rode Blue on my trail bike today. Rode everything except Empire. Park closed before I even got a chance to check out Empire. Oh well, I'll check it next year. The tracer handled everything just fine, even the ladder drop to Rainbow drop on Miles of Smiles. The only hiccup was a flat on Moto. Had everything I needed to change it trail side. Anyway, definitely a fun mountain.

We should definitely get together for a ride then. Do you do any trail riding, or just dh?
These days primarily xc and trail. I've got a 7 month old so its harder for me to get a full day off for dh. Plus I'm getting over a back injury that had me out most of the year. I've ridden maybe 10 times now, so still a little on the slow side. But getting there. I mostly ride valley forge since its 5 minutes from me. Rode trexler last Friday. Hoping the weather holds this week and tentatively planning to ride Marsh creek on Friday afternoon, taking a half day off work.

I live in Emmaus. I am hoping to get to blue before season ends but I'm not sure I will make it. My wife is keeping me busy we are expecting our first

I ride a lot more trail than dh, usually 50-70 miles a week . I'm trying to ride blue this Sunday though if I can get my tr500 back together in time.

Thanks for all the info on Blue everyone. I'll be sure to be back next summer. If JustMTB can manage to not break his arm again, maybe do another east coast DH road trip lol. I think Miles of Smiles to Ewok Village or Jambalaya to OCS to Loose Cannon would be my favorite runs.

I did manage to ride Raystown yesterday. Did a quick 13 mile ride on the drive home. Those trails are fast!

With a break or 2 Raystown was under 2hrs for sure then. Probably closer to 1.5hrs. Did you ride Hydro counterclockwise?

Yeah, I rode Hydro counterclockwise. Seems like a must do every time you go to Raystown. I did Allie>Grippis>Ridge>Berry Patch(never rode Barry patch before)>Sidewinder>Osprey (lower half)>Hydro>Eagle>Switch (climb)>Doe. With 3 breaks, took me right around 2 hours. I'm slow on climbs.
