I don't think winning ENDURO is or ever was the highest concern for the big S. They have nobody that is a top 10 contender at EWS events as it stands. Though there are guys placing in and around it with factory gigs could move up a few spots I would guess..
I didn't realize bearclaw was still riding mountain bikes professionally. I can't remember the last contest or video segment with him other then the bearclaw invitational, and it doesn't seem like you need to be a professional mountain biker to host an event.
He was out for a long time due to a back surgery. He had a popped disc I think and wante dto get away without surgery but needed to do it anyway at some point.

Kerr's the only Pivot rider getting any kind of coverage - they'd be fools to axe him. He did get some pretty rough feedback on the Dirt facebook page about his antics, and as everyone knows, facebook comments are (much like forum comments) made by only sane and rational people and are therefore taken super cereal by the industry.
