Ha - Don't count on that one, I know what I have and it isn't going anywhere. I'll hang it on the wall and put Christmas lights on it before I sell.

Looks great! I really hope they push out a modern version of this bike with all the momentum towards hardtails returning especially with the dreaded + size it would be awesome. I'll personally always own a HT, just something about it...

Your new imperial fits 3" tires... the sov does about 2.8 in a 26"... and maybe more depending on where you set your dropouts.

Would be nice to see them update this bike properly. Their last attempt was definitely a big miss in the modernization department... I wonder what happened to those frames. Nobody is posting pictures of them which makes me think they're not out there.

Have to say, new evil is quite a different beast from the old evil we all loved. Can't see myself buying a new evil... even a steel one.

A good buddy of mine is pretty close with them I saw him last weekend and apparently those frames are sitting in Seattle right now and are available for purchase...I think they aren't being marketed because of the straight head tube and lack of interest. An updated one would probably sell great though...

Yeah the company is obviously very different at this point but they are making incredible bikes, different but still cool. I do enjoy the old school new england vibe of the old days as well...

No 3" tires on the imperial, 2.3's and a bunch of lighter reasonable stuff.

translation: another bungle by the company? Old school evil made a bike that's still been ridden 10+ years later. New evil makes a bike that you can barely even get a fork for anymore and makes them look out of touch. These guys come across as pretty boneheaded sometimes... how do you f-up a hardtail in 2015?! To their credit, the suspension bikes seem to be going the right direction.

Sorry dump don't agree with you much here, those v.3 sov's were put out when the tapered thing was just coming online. They don't still manufacturer that frame, it's years old and just some new old stock sitting around. Also the new suspension bikes are literally blowing up every review out there, everyone loves them...In fact my riding buddy has an undead, uprising, and a following...All ride incredible. Gotta defend them here.

These v3 frames arrived November 2014 according to this evil bikes facebook post/picture:

Tapered was just coming online in December 2014? Old stock? They were new enough that they redesigned parts of it, added a headtube gusset, added a stealth dropper outlet, made it compatible with 27.5 wheels, etc.

They put up a bunch of old v1 stock online earlier that year (January) probably around the time they were thinking about placing an order for these.

New bikes, yeah... they seem to have that in order... then again, that's probably thanks to dw.

Agreed. Had been a year or so since I looked at this thread and checked it out last night. Does anyone have any other pics of DW's Sunday which was evil logo'd out? That was a great bike...Speaking of that guy, he should come back in and talk with us sometime...Are you out there @dw

Also - I am thinking about getting a 'Modern' EVIL, an Angry Dolphin *gasp.

Figured you evil fans will appreciate this one, kinda pays to keep some cool old parts around, I’d say this is probably a one of a kind. To be fair I did search long and hard for the fork, ended up getting lucky. The frame sat in my garage for a few years before I acquired the proper mix of parts to build it up. The Marzocchi RAC is a weird fork to rebuild, and kinda scary since they basically never existed. Would have been really cool to have an unlimited budget and go haywire on this thing…Here are Some build highlights:

Frame: Evil Imperial SL
Fork: Marzocchi Carbon RAC Coil (2001)
Stem: Thomson X4
Headset: OG e.13 cups
Bars: Chromag Cutlass
Front Hub: Ringle non disk (wish I could have found the BOXXER model)
Rear Hub: Hope Trials
Rims: Velocity Blunt 35
Tires: Bontrager X4 / Intense Microknobby
Brake: XTR / Avid BB7
Pedals: Straightline Amp
