whoa...might be in for a set. Brakes are so cheap nowadays that it makes more sense to swap the entire unit than to replace the pads. Pads are $40 for most brakes...$120 for a complete setup? Yeesh.

Except for the waste. I'll gladly swap pads.

Still running Louise BAT's on two bikes.
Not had a problem.
One pair only needed a bleed after a hamfisted mechanic who shall remain naimless buggered up cutting a line after what in hindsight was probably too many beers.:banghead::busted:
The other set needed a bleed after 4or5? years.
Just feed em pads and they are ready to go.

Would be loving a set of 7's to play with.

In hell. Welcome!
I have an old pair of Louise that is very solid (that's why I got lured into the MT-8 in the first place), but in my experience, the MT line is a completely different animal.

I sprung for them this morning. JEJames had a 5% coupon, and that pushed me over the edge. 127$ total with shipping. That's cheaper than new XTs, and pretty close to what I think OEM xts went for. Will let you all know when they arrive. Won't be able to ride until the spring, unless we get another crazy winter without snow.

What bikes are you putting them on?
I just bought Jagwire Magura MT kit because both hoses sprang a leak in the hose-banjo joint, and new MT hoses run for >$50/piece. Their banjos are proprietary so there is no good alternative on the market.

That seems rare for both hoses to do that, strange. Fwiw I had Jagwire Hyflows on a set of Formula Oro's. Good product, especially for how much they cost. They are the same hoses that Avid gets supplied with for their brakes.

At least it's an easily identifiable problem with a concrete fix...unlike Avids and Shimanos when you run into issues :D

They'll go on the DH bike, the rest will stay the same. Not sure what to do with the formulas yet, they have fantastic modulation and adequate power for trail riding, but they are very noisy in dry conditions, tend to drag constantly, and have white hoses which would clash with the stealth guy attitude of the rest of the bike. I am partial to shimano's undying reliability, and don't recall having felt the phantom menace that other people whine about.

I'm hoping that the maguras will provide a little more power than the formulas, but significantly more fade resistance and better lever setup, plus better modulation than the shimanos. I was surprised riding your zees just how different the feel in modulation is. Plus, having one bottle of not-awful brake fluid would be pretty slick. Just need to figure out what spares I'll need for these brakes.

Yeah - it is, because everything else already failed on my MT8s - master cylinders, o-rings, one of the calipers is out of commission because the magnetic pistons cracked (and Magura won't sell you a replacement because of safety concerns).

Update - got them mounted finally. The front hose is really short, it's on a 180mm 36 and it's barely long enough to reach, no slack left over for a bar spin crash, will definitely need to replace the front hose. Brake performance is fantastic, good lever feel, good modulation and a ton of power. Bite point is very consistent.

Just ordered a second set, they're down to $109 USD for a set now.

In the bathroom, fighting a battle
I eyeballed mine and the hose seemed about right for my 29" bike with a 160mm 36 and wide-ass bars. Waiting on a few more parts before I tear the whole thing down for an overhaul and find out of the line is indeed long enough. I'll try to remember and measure it up tonight.

Received my brakes a week or two.. or three ago. Took about a week to get them from England to Seattle.

Haven't managed to get them installed yet. My Sunday - in which these were purchased for - is still stripped down in the idea that I would drill out holes in front triangle for rear shock access (done), cut down lower link (done), install RC4 (not done), change bearings out (removed, but not installed), new bb and new chainguide...

Oh and I also came to the realization that the mounting hardware for shimano brakes wouldn't suffice for these Magura brakes. So I need to order brake mounts too. Recomendations on front/rear brake adapters for a 203 fr (on a 40, so I think I need qm43?) and a 180 IS rear? And where should I buy to save maximum profits?

Interested in the feedback on these. Been on mt5's for a couple months now and I'm unimpressed. I was expecting the stopping power to be close to my saints. Not even. Great modulation for sure, but borderline weak IME. Could organic pads on the maggies vs metal on the saints make that big a difference? Only thing I can think of...

There better not be adapters necessary...I thought magura was done with the stupid shit. I'll keep my formulas if that's the case.

Measured 75cm bolt to lever. It might just fit on my fox 40. I probably need a longer hose to be safe.

Mine mounted up with my Avid hardware fine.

I have a Fox 40 Hybrid-Air that came off a 2012? (maybe 2013?) Trek Session 9.9. It has the weird IS adapters that make it so you only need a 160mm IS-PM adapter for a 203 rotor. My Shimano adapter did not clear both the pistons.

However, the rear fit just fine in an old Avid 180 adapter making my recent purchase of the proper Magura adapter a rather unnessary expense. Oh well.

Furthermore, I noticed my front brake line was really short as well. It'll just barely fit my fork as well. So long as I run the fork with the top crown about about 2cm down. Luckily I have some old Jagwire hyflow housing laying around for a project I never got around. So hopefully, the MT quick fit kit is the last piece I'll need to get my Sunday finally running again after being destroyed in Whistler this summer...
