Still suffering from zekebolfuckitallAids. Waiting on Job offer counter offer response. Had a conversation with hiring manager last night, this is going to take a while. Sigh.
I was holding a star wingding vigil while awaiting your return. Hope all is well.Awesome purple wing ding stars! Crossing my fingers that I will be released today.
I am 1 satisfactory poop away from being released. Hospital food place does not wake up until, 6:30 PM. I am just glad it's done and I can return to activity soon.I was holding a star wingding vigil while awaiting your return. Hope all is well.
I sort of hid inside for most of yesterday, trying to plumb the intricacies of writing well in C#. I hope to propel myself outside today. It was -6° F when I got up this morning.Wind Chill is -25 to -50. For the entire weekend. I will relace a wheel this weekend indoors.

Today is my 16th Wedding Anniversary. Still no regrets. She woke up to a nice card on the counter.. me? meh. I just woke up to happy doggies for the win. Dinner and drinks on the town tonight to celebrate.
off to drive the short bus in a bit
The sensors do require cleaning. Also, if they have a battery backup that might need replaced0°F out there this morning. brrr.
fucking fire alarm went off last night at 3:30 am. We have 20ft cathedral ceilings on the second floor, so that meant going downstairs to the basement to grab the 12' step-ladder. friggin hell. this alarm is right above our kids bedrooms and wired in. somehow the kids didn't wake up, but it took me till 5:30 to get back to sleep.
Anyone know anything about fire alarms? can their sensors get dirty? It went off yesterday at 5pm when no one was home (and there was no fire). so I unplugged it, then plugged it back in, brought the ladder back downstairs, and then it went off again, so up I went again with the ladder, unplugged it, replugged it and it stayed silent. till 3:30 am this morning! The thing is, during my renos, the electrician (who I wasn't very impressed by) installed another wired in alarm in the basement. It seems to somehow be connected to the one upstairs, caus' when they're both plugged in, they will go off together. the downstairs alarm is brand new, the upstairs one has been there since we've owned the house, which is 6 years. I don't know how old it is. It's only misfired once before.
I think there's a few possibilities, but I know next to nothing about fire alarms, or electric wiring in houses.
1) the electrician did a shitty job and there's a poor circuit or loose wires in there
2) the old alarm is dirty, possibly as a result of the renos (mudding and painting)
3) ?
Should I just get a new alarm and plug it into the existing wiring upstairs? Should I dispense with wired alarms, and get battery operated ones that are within arms reach and then just replace the batteries once a year?
Maybe I should post this in the buying our first house thread?!?!
Don't know about canuckistan, but wired detectors are required here in certain spaces. Also, is the basement alarm near the furnace? Oil or gas?0°F out there this morning. brrr.

I've stolen some of the lizard peoples secrets.Hi.
Wingdings were purple on my phone, but b&w on the laptop. WTF Westy?
It's going to be 57* today, so you know, I got that going for me.
Glad you're on the outs Serial Midget. Find your pants and get out of there.

I figured that's why the electrician installed the basement alarm, despite my not asking for one.Don't know about canuckistan, but wired detectors are required here in certain spaces. Also, is the basement alarm near the furnace? Oil or gas?
Swap detector locations to see if problems persist. Drywall dust does fuck them up so a blast of compressed air may help too.
you've said too much.I've stolen some of the lizard peoples secrets.

Find and read the manual for the particular detector you're using, before you start mucking around with compressed air.I figured that's why the electrician installed the basement alarm, despite my not asking for one.
I'll blast both units with compressed air, swap their batteries, and swap them locations. and see how that goes.
Oh, and the basement one is about 3' from the gas furnace. But there's a wall between them, with a door.
thanks for the responses...
I just read the Green Mile recently and it was awesome. I could also recommend One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey. Both are quite enthralling.Tired. Haley woke up with a fever around 2am and kept me up until 3:30am. She was totally fine this morning, just a slight cough. Having to break out the tea to get a bit of caffeine going through the system.
Spent last night getting packed for the weekend. I somehow have lost my sound reducing headphones, so the flight is going to suck. My travel will be so light that even in our small carry-on bag things are flopping around. I need to keep a shirt pressed though, so I can't take my backpack even though everything would fit into it. Still debating it though. Any recommendations for good sci-fi/fantasy novels or non-fiction novels to load onto my Kindle?
Good point, I was thinking of the keyboard/camera cleaning air cans not a shop compressor.Find and read the manual for the particular detector you're using, before you start mucking around with compressed air.
Note that unfiltered/undried air from a shop compressor is more likely to do harm than good.
This article recommends vacuuming...
Blood Meridian is always one of my first recommendations, best described as "Jane Austin Antimatter". If you are not into something that heavy most everything written by Bill Bryson is informative and highly entertaining. In A Sun-burnt Country is particularly hilarious.Tired. So was A Walk in the Woods. I tried to read a few other Bill Bryson novels but none replicated the amusement I found for that one.Blood Meridian is always one of my first recommendations, best described as "Jane Austin Antimatter". I think Sunburn Country was funnier, Life and times of the thunderbolt kid was also good but not on the same par. The rest of his books aren't as funny but rather informative while still being entertaining. He is one of the few popular authors that have giant bibliographies in the back of his books. Sumbitch does some research. So was A Walk in the Woods. I tried to read a few other Bill Bryson novels but none replicated the amusement I found for that one.
FTFYSo much insomnia on teh - perhaps is the fault of the Lizard People?

I've already taken down most of those. I started reading PBS' top 100 sci-fi and fantasy models of the last century a few years ago and made a big dent into the list.I called in sick yesterday. Rehearsal went fine last night but then I deteriorated overnight. After a shower I feel more normal (now at work writing papers, in theory) but the true test is afternoon.
Book suggestions for stoney:
- A Song of Ice and Fire (aka the books behind Game of Thrones)
- Terry Pratchett, as he's hilarious
- John MacDonald's Travis McGee series, of which there are many
- Neuromancer (William Gibson)
- The Space Merchants (Frederik Pohl)
- Neal Stephenson, pick any/all
Tried this one?I've already taken down most of those. I started reading PBS' top 100 sci-fi and fantasy models of the last century a few years ago and made a big dent into the list.
