Cliffs Notes are that proton pump inhibitors (heartburn meds) are associated with dementia.

This is kind of a big deal, for me personally as well. Being fat I have heartburn. I take a PPI. Am I clouding my brain as a result? (Will I be more sane if I knock off a few neurons? Hmm.)
Proton Pump Inhibitor was named by a guy who watched first generation Transformers.

Yeah, maybe this will be the motivation to shed some pounds as Eric has done. I'll start by actually paying attention to what I eat and stop bringing delicious but carb-heavy things into the house.

That's the thing: I haven't cared so much about the fatness because I haven't a hint of diabetes. Blood sugars are stone cold normal as is hemoglobin A1C (which measures a running average over the past few months, as it were). My normal weight wife has borderline high A1C, on the other hand, which makes sense since my relatives have no diabetes whatsoever yet she has multiple grandparents with the 'beetus.

I do care about the heartburn, though, as when untreated it makes life much more unpleasant.

I've identified the items that trigger heartburn for me:

fatty foods like croissants (the real kind, made from real butter, with the melt-in-your mouth flakiness)
coffee (specifically moka-pot coffee, that shit gives me nasty, instantaneous heartburn, it's crazy)
licorice and associated candies
hard liquor (such as scotch) before bed
cola (I only like Coke, so it might be just Coke, but I'm happy lumping all colas in with this one).
sometimes hunger can do it too.

The worst offenders are definitely croissants, coffee and licorice though. Holy hell will that combination send me running for a pharmacy. Oddly enough, spicy foods aren't really a problem for me that way.

Have you identified what causes your heartburn?

Would be working in Everett. Would likely live somewhere between there and the north side of Seattle. Whidbey wouldn't be out of the question if I decided I wanted more of a pastoral setting.

Would probably try to form a TBBXC tribute band.
Sounds like you know what you want but if your trying to buy I have family in Edmonds/Mukilteo that have been real estate people for decades. Cousin in Silver Lake too.

I'd try to live on Whidby Island. What an epic place to be chill.

Any good placed to ride on the island? I am guessing road riding would be decent at least, certainly better than mainland.

There is pretty fun single-track up near Coupeville called the Kettle Trails. They are in and around all the glacial kettles and ww2 bunkers. Anacortes has singletrack, but that's up off the island on the north end. Mukilteo has Japanese Gulch which is right near the ferry.

The road riding i can imagine is pretty good compared to the mainland. But I don't do pavement so can't speak from experience. Some of my best friends grew up/live on Whidby. They're all up around Coupeville and Oak Harbor though.

Hard liquor does it for me too.

The worst though, is green peppers on pizza. There is something about the combo of green peppers and the cheese/meat that gives an instant spout of heartburn. Raw green peppers or in something else like fajitas are always okay to eat, which puzzles me.

@Westy, congrats dude ! Now maybe you'll actually be challenged at work at can ease back on the pedagogical engineering lectures and necro-thread bumping. :D

@Toshi, I too used to be a large mammal with indigestion. Tried many things to alleviate the acid-reflux and ate Tums like they were a meal. Ultimately it was sodas (Coke, Ginger ale, etc.) that was causing it. High Fructose corn syrup is the worst for this. Quitting the sugary drinks can be tough, but it's worth it.

I remember how excited you seemed when you landed this last job. Bummer it turned out to be a suckfest.
I can't really look back and question my decision. It seemed like the best opportunity to me, but didn't pan out. They hired me because they were growing into new industries where they needed my skillsets. That growth stopped, all that work stopped, so they don't really know what to do with me so I just end up doing random shit no one else wants to do and working with the few bad folks that no one else wants to work with. I still think this is a good company.

Expect to see less of me in the immediate future. So if anything positive has come out of this, there you go.
All of this drama was about work?

What's still unanswered is when that Audi Q7 is showing up in your driveway.

Is it bad that I am in the best mood I have been in years? I feel like a ton of rocks is off my shoulders, but they're roiling around my stomach now.

The rock that fell into the bucket, has been effectively taken out and the resulting waves have mostly settled, but the silt has been stirred up. Fuck being a grown up. Fuck all of this shit.

At least I have plans to go for a ride this weekend.

That would make things easy.

As of now? Not. I'm not approving shit at this point.

If I even vaguely understand what you have been going through, time constant for waves to settle is more like three months than three days. Give yourself time.

Does contain azodicarbonamide, which I'm inclined to say is harmless since that idiot "Food Babe" creature has singled it out.
It could be something else in your diet. HFCS is hidden almost all processed foods. Sometimes it goes by different names, especially products from Europe. Developing Gout has put me on a restricted diet that mandates obsessive label reading and it's been quite an eye opener to what's in our foods.

I haven't been following...well at all. But as near as I can tell he is (or is going to be) cheating on his wife, and then getting a divorce. Or something. But one thing that IS clear is that he remains an insufferable drama queen/attention whore.

You know when someone really racist says something really racist but don't want to sound racist they kind of dance around the subject. Like that, but not racist, but probably something similarly repugnant therefor we get the verbal square dance. Or is it the Hustle? Possibly the Macarena.

You shut your whore mouth! You can have my soda when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

I do stay away from the HFC's, though. That stuff will kill you.
