Who has one? Do you like?

I am intrigued... I know I'd use it regularly on the road bike and would like to use one on the mtbs. I'm pretty crashy, can they handle impacts?

I won a bag of Garmin goodies in a raffle and it included an Edge. 510? 520?
It did what it said, and I didn't even use all the features. It seemed more accurate than the GPS on my phone.

I wouldn't think a mostly plastic sensitive electronic device would be too SM impact friendly.

The 520 looks much nicer. The 1000 is huge. As I remember it the only advantage is the navigation. If you need that?
The advantage of size for me is visibility and size of touch screen... I'm guessing. I don't generally need navigation but I would use strava routes for fun. I would use it extensively for running.

If you planning on using one for running, I wouldn't get an edge.

You would have to be pretty blind not to be able to see the display on a 500 series edge. I wouldn't mind the map capability, but if your routes are set then not much use for it. I use the turn by turn quite a bit exploring back roads but you have to upload a course at home.

The Edge 1000 seems like it'd be a pain in the ass to carry on runs, but I suppose if you are used to running with a phone, it's probably comparable. The 920 multisport watch also has navigation, though the screen is tiny and probably not very useful for trail running.

Those Edges are not cheap. If I were to use one for MTB, I'd keep it secure in my CamelBak and take it out only if I need to check my route. No way I'd mount that thing on my handlebar, especially with my inability to stay upright on my bike.

I would not mount on bike, it can track everything I do from the pack. I also run with pack on anything over 6 miles but it will be a few months before I'm up to that. I'm pretty much done with road running for life, too hurty.

I have a 510, and it is more sturdy than you would think. I've actually smacked it into a tree on a tech descent. I run it on the stem now so it is protected from front impacts. The 510 has a tether so if it should fall off, which it never has, I won't lose it.
