My fish are only out of the water aboot a minute and a half to two minutes. Just long enough to remove the hook, measure and snap a couple of pic's. My buddy actually tags them and has to do a couple of extra measurements for tracking but his are out less than three. In the year i've been doing this and the three of his that i know of we've never lost one. He will occasionally eat one but it's too much hassle for me.

but we have a pretty good shark culture down here. I don't know anyone catchking and just killing them any more. I think these are great creatures and I do enjoy catching (and releasing) them but if i thought i was doing any real harm i wouldnt do it.
