I don't mind building a platform. Do you think I'd fit okay with my 5'3" GF if we got up over the wheel wells?
with tailgate down you'll still be hanging over the edge of the bed, as far as width you'll be fine, its what like 4' wide. it's as wide as my cvt tent and 2 adult men are fine inside there without feeling like im gonna touch dick.

i guess it came down for me to cab options. I preferred the cab space over the bed length

This.

I think he should get a real taco truck. More room, no dumb hood scoops. If course there is the whole taco thing.
Same. Clicked this expecting taco pictures and other than BlackOhio's, what a tease.

Sorry to hear that your S4 got hit. I have nothing to input other than I was a little shocked at how much Tacos cost up here. I forget which trim level it was, but I did the online builder thing a while ago and the 6 speed was starting at 40k. :brow:

I mean, yeah, that's the debate I'm having too.

To be clear, I get that I'm never sleeping in a short bed, I'm talking about a long bed

To draw a comparison my tent is 4' x 8'. End-to-end it feels tight at times and maybe thats just because its fully enclosed. Im sure sleeping in the back will be fine, you're 2" shorter than i am.

I'd say get the truck you want, make the other occasional stuff work for you. Theres plenty of bed tent options full fully ones like mine to the smaller pop-up tents that will alleviate those problems by being able to fold the tailgate down and the tent also drops to the ground for a second room/space.

What are you more likely to do? Haul people, or stuff in the bed? I'm happy with the long bed 4 door cab in a sport. Of course mine has an actual limited slip diff and not the computerized thing on the current models, so it's a nice middle ground.

One thing worth noting- coming from a full size Tundra four door w 6.5 ft bed, this truck is not a lot shorter in length. Not the improvement I imagined for city driving. That's another place where just putting up w the short bed and having the nicer off-road package could be good.

I am going to guess that Have is smart enough to figure out a way to stay warm and dry sleeping in the bed of a truck with the tailgate dropped for additional length. Perhaps a consult with some of the local homeless?

Yeah, the double cab long beds are, well, long. Either way I'm getting something a bit shorter than that.

I don't haul more than 2 people in my wagon that much, and in the rare events that I need to, either someone can suck it up and sit in the back of an access cab, or someone else can drive. On the flip side, if the long bed isn't going to be that much more useful for my purposes, then maybe I should just get a double cab short bed and have some extra room.

You'll find a reg cab long bed T100 with low miles soon enough. Be patient, it's out there somewhere. If I didn't have kiddo I'd still be in a reg cab 8ft bed 4x4 something or other. The extra cab turns into a garbage cave or tool box. I loved the reg cab, "sorry guys only room for one extra'

I've thought about that. I'm sure I could figure something out, but being able to just use the bed and cap all sealed up sounds a lot nicer and easier.

I have no idea where I am
When I read posts like these about what dudes need a pickup truck for it cracks me up. Clearly there are a lot of you who really need to buy a minivan and let go of the ridiculous stereotypes. Nothing more absurd than listening to grown men struggle to haul anything in their giant ass pickups other than groceries.

Several years ago there was a guy on here who asked for suggestions on how to haul his bike in his new, lifted, extended cab truck. Couldn't for the life of him figure it out.

Carry on...

I am blown away at the prices on those trucks. As someone who has built 5 Toyota trucks (pre-Taco only), I can't imagine getting one now. The majority of my trucks were 4cyl base model because the 3.0 V6 was a worthless pig. I haven't even seen many manual Tacos around and I look at every one I see on the junk lots I've been looking at for Bmans car.

I am actually swapping out my 14 Ram 1500 for a Subaru...too much truck for the Frau and as things didnt work out exactly as I had envisioned post retirement it is just a better fit for us right now. Besides...I never minded being called a lesbian when I drove my last 'ru...

Come on, man - give a :monkey: some credit...
Look, I agree that I don't NEED a truck. I'd love something like an Outback if they still sold those with a manual and a half decent engine. If there was something that I thought was perfect for my needs and wants, I'd have pulled the trigger a long time ago.

roof rack = kill list
Agreed. I personally am not tall enough to retrieve my bike off that roof, or put it up there (without fear of sending a pedal through the window).

It was convenient though. And without a hitch rack, leaves the rear gate completely open for use as a bench and beer stool.

Would rather have...

Maybe you should get two vehicles. Since you obviously like to shift manually, then spend some coin on a car that's just for driving, going on dates, running errands, looking cool at intersections, etc. And for your utility vehicle to be used for hauling anything from a crew of rowdy DHrs to full sheets of plywood, buy a beater for cheap.

Or...

...just get a minivan.
