Thinking of getting one for the sake of putzing around with the kids. There are a couple of pump tracks nearby, and I figure that's the tool for the jorb.

I've seen a couple of Specialized P2s for sale near me for a couple hundred bucks. Are they terrible?

I'm in shock at how cheap some are compared to others. There's a chromag monk up for sale too for 3x the price.

I guess the cachet/bro factor is always gonna be there, but curious about geo and sizing too. I presume fit rules are: ride a frame as small as you can get before looking like this:

I picked up a DMR Wrath 24 from CRC for peanuts. I like it cause as an over 6 foot MTB guy that never rode BMX (ie sucks), tiny bikes feel (and probably are) dangerous for me. The DMR is on the longer side (24 inch top tube) and has a full 31 inch handle bar so it kinda feels like a really big BMX. Really fun on the pump tracks around here. Basically, no need to go super micro on your bike for pump tracks... @jackalope has a P2 which feels pretty similar when we swap bikes. He may be able to chime in as well. In short, do it.

I got a DK Asterik off ebay for next to nothing ($180 maybe?). Looks like this:

I take it to the skate park/bmx track in town and tool around the neighborhood with the kids.

If you are used to larger bikes then something longer will feel fine.
If you are shorter don't get something long, and if taller don't get something short, but short is like 21ish and long is 23ish so not huge difference.
I am 5'10" and like my octane one zircus, with 22.4" I think

On this topic, what DJ has the longest TT? I've been thinking about picking one up and that's always my limitation - I need a stupid long tt.

Interesting. I'm definitely on the shorter side at 5-8", so will avoid "long". The bikes on PB are listed in S,M and L, so I'll be sure to clarify on any good contenders.

@cecil that TR is pretty sweet.

What say teh RM on frame material? I'm guessing steel is real.

Dirt jumpers are great for playing around and working on skills, I've had mine for years and won't part with it. Oscar welded it. You should ask Oscar to weld you one, that's the best way, IMO... ;)

define stupid long. would you be open to a 24" cruiser? S&M has one and last i was aware they still do custom, so asking for something with a longer TT should be an easy request .

I would suggest that you also look at BMX cruisers, crappy pics of mine:

Interested in this thread,Frankensteined a DJ together this winter. Rides like a tank, unsure of actual "DJ" ability:

Like the OP, I wanted something with recognized bro-cred, but wasn't willing to pay the asking prices for Trannys, Chromags, Deitys, etc...Ended up with a P2 that was in OK shape, which has been 100% fine for my purposes - mainly pumptrackin'...

I actually like it for a barcrawler and late nite dog cruising on nearby greenways, as it makes you work a little harder than a geared commuter bike. Its certainly serviceable at the BMX track, but its not geared or setup like a true BMX cruiser bike. As much as I disdain Sue-alized, its been a solid bike and fun as shit. I'm 5'10ish and I think its a long - fits well. Just grab a (steel) P-bike or something like Subop's Chainreaction special and slap some Transition stickers on it (+1 for @cecil)

Of the few I've had, the Azonic Steelhead came in a "long" and my DK is pretty damn long. At 6'4" I like as long a tt as I can get usually. Like 23+

If youre looking to build something, check out NS/ octane 1. O1 is the cheaper, sister company of NS.

I believe I got their aluminum frame for around 200 shipped (zircus). its basically a no frills frame, I haven't ridden it lately, but its awesome for the price. Ive had a couple of their voids and ive ridden every thing on it.

its a little front end heavy with the 36 fork, but its the only way to go IMO.

I've got a Norco 125 that I picked up used about 6 months ago. It's still hovering near the top of my list of Best Things Ever.

Use it for tooling around the neighborhood with the kids and weekend trips to the pumptrack. And practicing perpetually <5yd manuals.

I'm 5'10", TT is 22 1/2 center to center. Lavishly comfortable IMO.

I will echo the advice about buying steel or your feet will break off.

Buongiorno everyone!
NSMB has died a groaning death...
So glad there are still good forums around like this one for me to machine gun unsolicited advice at.
