Im looking at getting an iMac for work. The one I am looking at is about $3k. Is there anywhere that has them cheaper that Apple store?

Apple Store online has refurbished ones occasionally. Also check Slickdeals: eBay sellers, Best Buy, and Newegg all have periodic sales.

isn't there a rating system for how cool you are to if your eligible to even own a mac? you may need to wear skinny jeans, get stupid tats and grow a man bun. oh and listen to bad indie rock

No, no, that's just if you want to shop at the Apple store and have someone actually help you, or as close to help as the Hipster Business model allows.

hp spectre x360 13-w013dx. great specs and nice build quality. it's actually a refurb, but it's fairly immaculate. I have only one problem, which is a clicky trackpad, but that seems like it's endemic to the model and fixed by a relatively easy tape mod. I just don't know if I care enough to return it and try again, or ignore it and fix it eventually.

It's an ocd test. I got a Dell XPS 15. Ordered an open box, they sent me a $100 junker, BB made things right and ordered me a new one for even moar discount. #notbadobama

wait they sent you a junker? what do you mean, just lots of problems? i liked the xps 13 a lot, but it was very expensive spec wise and it was almost too small with the tiny bezels. I wanted a 15 but didn't want to pay 1500. My spectray was only 700

also back to OP, Frys.com occasionally has apple specials, like $100 off or so. I still think that apple makes the best laptops, but you need to like Apple OS and you pay much more for similar specs. Great battery life but shit processing power.

Thanks for all the replies. I am on a 2009 MacBook Pro right now, and a 2007 iMac. They both still work, but are really starting to show their age.

I'm leaning towards the 27' iMac with the 5k screen and the 4.0 i7.

dammit!! forgot that part. can i substitute over priced coffee shop with newest, latest micro brewery or distillery?
NO. As I am unable to grow a decent beard or mustache and have a gunt that makes skinny jeans a crime - expensive high alcohol IPA is my last grasp on cool.

Anyhow my 2 cents on porn viewing electronics - get the cheapest one possible for streaming and make sure its thin enough for an industrial shredder. Dispose of annually for maximum deniability, quarterly if you are already on probation.

Instead of the XPS15, they sent me a beaten old Inspiron 15. You could imagine my disappointment when I opened the box, and the customer service line was completely useless. I had to kick someone's ass in a brick and mortar store to make it right. Smells like an internal fraud.

how much did you pay? that's insane that they would charge xps prices for an inspiron. somebody had a laugh.

I think I'm keeping this PC. It's super nice, aside from the OCD irritating trackpad. I won't notice it in a month.

Just picked up my new XPS. It went to BSOD in less than 15 minutes. Updating the BIOS now, oh the joys of the Wintel platform. Other than that, seems nice, if I can get used to this tiny keyboard.

LOL- I was just going to post that I ended up returning the spectre because of a bad key and a the stupid trackpad. I got another one in exchange but now the fan is whistling. Hopefully it'll go away quickly. Maybe I can just ignore it.

Is yours black with gold trim? Looked quite nifty in Best Buy, but I think I saw at the 360 15" model.

No, I wanted the nifty Zsa Zsa/Melania edition, but I ended up with a refurb (I swear it's just like an apple) silver for $5-600 less. If this doesn't work out, I may spring for the bling.

Did you get the touchscreen on yours?

I think so, I got the big 4k screen but I am not touching it - I like my display clean. :monkey:

LOL. how's battery life? I hear the 4k cuts it down considerably, but with the 15" format you probably get a bigger battery, right?

So I ended up ordering from B&H, saved me tax and got some software for free. Thanks for the suggestions!

looks like my new laptop might have to go back. the whistling is annoying. I'm done with refurbs!
Sucks. I am struggling a bit with color balance on the 4k display, I am fed up with the touchpad (microsoft drivers suck castrated donkey balls, I had to install a different driver from the manufacturer instead, with registry hacking and all), and I still don't understand why they put an undersized keyboard in a 15" chassis. Oh and the batter lasts between 4 and 5 hours without a saver enganged.

traded in the second spectre and picked up a thinkpad yoga 14 from breast buy. lower specs but discrete gpu and a keyboard that's worth typing on. brand new for 700. not bad.jpg. definitely slower spec wise but feels like a thinkpad, which is more durable and heavier at the expense of thin'n'lite. plus the stylus means i can draw weiners on all the websites I usually go to.
