So how many winning runs has gwin had ruined by mechanical issues?

Cause it honestly feels like he's had a lot more than average

The more interesting question is how many times Gwin won although he had a mechanical. :D

Cue Onza triple ply Kevlar reinforced Aaron Gwin edition 1600g tire!

What is this, the second time in two years he's lost a real shot at a win (Qualied 1st) because of a rear tire?

Poor Vergier had a cracker of a run after a really costly mistake out of the gate. Man that sucks - love to have seen how he would have done otherwise.

Sounds like Neko showed up with cardboard today when he had approved protection all week.
Changed it last minute? Where you see this? In his Redbull TV interview he eluded to it being the same he practiced and qualy'd in? Or was I just giving him the benefit of the doubt?

Alas, it's not the first time people have gotten weird around this rule, both shots from Leogang 2014:

What would be the advantage of running fake back protection? I understand not liking it and trying to get away with no back protection, but how is a slab of cardboard not worse than a turtle shell that's actually designed to fit on your back?

in the same way stamping your feet when refused pudding is more badass than simply accepting you're getting no fucking pudding.

Why are you laughing @Gary?

Is there some secret us mere mortals dont know about?
Unless the team was in on this and he was doing it to make a point, its more like something a 15yo would do then a professional athlete.

Ive seen people doing it at races in Europe, but even the TLD upper body protecter have is so comfy i dont notice it at all and ive never had problems with it in any ixs race...

You are suggesting the moment you become pro you become a smart, responsible person and all dude bro attitude you had before goes away. Man I wish someone told some of the pros I know, my liver would benefit and I'd no longer need to translate their hospital documents.

yeah dont see why this is a problem any more, all riders know the rule and it wont be the last time some marshal just decide to go on a power trip.

+1 on the lack of respect to sponsors etc

I mean it's funny and all, but at the same time so fvcking stupid.
Guys like Bruni, Gwin and Hart are even running elbow pads and some people are still trying to get away with cardboards?!
If I were a racer, I'd definitely wore protection (like I do anyways.).
First I wouldn't want to have a racerun with stitched together elbows and forearms. I definitely think stitches would harm my race run more then a light arm protector.

And second I just like my spine (well sometimes I hate it after hours behind the desk).

I get your point but if i were his team manager or his sponsor i wouldnt be too happy.

Its a small piece of lightweight foam on your back. Hardly worth getting a DNS over imo.
Knowing a few people who handle pros in extreme sports. They are rarely happy. Riders can do such things like go to an event riding something from a competitor of their sponsor. They forget stuff all the time. Downhillers are professional compared to some other sports.

Did anyone watch the men's XC race? What a shitshow first lap.. people running their bikes through sections and one dude parked across the trail trying to get his chain off. People were lifting bikes over top of him.

During the XC course preview Tracey Mosely mentioned that there were several traffic jam/choke points. Just makes the whole thing look like a gong show when that happens.

Blocking other riders from passing is what made me stop racing XC as a kid. If you don't have a strong start you will expend tons of energy overtaking dicks who will block you despite you being faster than them. Hell they will drag their brakes on the downhills but still not let you pass. It's not really about who is the fastest. The whole culture in endurance bike riding is shit.

What would Minnaar's career have looked like if he had a bike which fit him years ago?
Since Barrell, Hill, Gwin, Gee and Smith still existed, probably much the same. Gotta give credit where it's due. Minnar has certainly become the most consistent and longest lasting rider in DH history, but you can't forget these guys were on another level at their peak (Gwin still is when on it). Where Minnar is amazing is that he's been at the top level for pretty much the whole time, a few off years but always at the top. Amazing career that will not be broken for a while I don't think.

I can give you contact a local girl who calls herself a trail princess and claims to be a better rider by TECHNICAL SKILL than most downhill riders she meets because she is world champion in Masters-2 24hour endurance XC (I'd be surprised if she had more than 3 people competing with her).
