In hell. Welcome!
I can give you contact a local girl who calls herself a trail princess and claims to be a better rider by TECHNICAL SKILL than most downhill riders she meets because she is world champion in Masters-2 24hour endurance XC (I'd be surprised if she had more than 3 people competing with her).

In Toronto? XC people clog the trails around here big time and the downhills have gotten so easy because same XC people cut out roots and remove rocks, so I also doubt it. But some are total rippers so credit where it's due. She rides the Don?

Funny you say that, the boners around here that maintain our trails and race up there do the same thing. It's pathetic.

The club purchased a muck truck to haul gravel miles into the trails to fill root sections and smooth them out. I understand using gravel to fill wet spots but that is it.

Back on topic.....

I have a POC spine protector that is a few years old and it's not very uncomfortable and does not restrict movement.

I started doing some XC stuff in the past couple of years to get back in shape and found there exists a super-wide divide in technical ability and desire in the XC community. The best XC riders are genuinely awesome bike handlers, but there are soooo many dust roadie types who are very vocal and don't want anything too technical in XC race loops. Fortunately the WC stuff is getting more and more technical so the better riders can use those examples as what needs to be in the local races to prepare the up and coming riders.

This is why I avoid all trails within the GTA, besides Jefferson Forest. :D

Team Director Martin Whiteley said: "Neko made a mistake today and has paid for it. The issue is not with the UCI as I have read everywhere. All DH races held in Switzerland are governed by Swiss law, and the World Cup must comply. It’s the same in France, and all riders and teams know this, and are warned on several occasions that protection made of hard plastic must be worn. Neko didn’t follow that rule and didn’t advise anyone on the team of his intentions, and was caught by the official at the top. Neko has apologized to everyone on the team and we move on.”

Aaron said: “Oh man, well, we battled through a tough weekend and got into the finals with a solid shot at the win. Unfortunately I cut a hole in the sidewall of my tire about ¾ of the way down the track. The tire was going flat quick but I pushed it as long as I could. I broke the rim soon after and then everything came apart a few turns later. That’s racin’, sometimes things don’t turn out as you’d hoped, but at the end of the day if you’re content with the effort that you put in, it’s still a positive. The crowds today were massive and it was so cool meeting so many people who appreciate what we do. Good times were had, and I wish we didn’t have to wait nearly a month until the next World Cup, can’t wait!!”

Man that guy has the right attitude, great to see him being positive about it. I'm still bitching about stuffing up a race run with a split brake hose back in 2007.

Lol what.
You can clearly see Mulally rollin to the start gate with his cardboarded trikot under his arm and NO protector on where as Gwin always wears his alpine stars protector during warm up.
And Mr. Whiteley was like "oh we didn't know".
Seems more like "we didn't care and now we have to do a press release on this stupid shit."

I'm pretty sure he might be pissed he is just not advertising it. Complaining doesn't sell well in the dude bro world of dh.

Maybe he is, but I can definitely see, that he is way happier then a few years back. He also says by himself that he always loved riding the bikes but hated racing. Nowadays he seems to actually love it and is way more approachable. Maybe he is matured now.

That is also something you can see in Minnaar. With each year he seems to get cooler, which in a sport that gets won in the head is a real advantage.
There are good examples for older athletes in alpine skiing that don't let anything get to them and win big. For example Didier Cuche had his best years in his mid 30s.

I am by no means a big Gwin fan, but he seems to be a good lad with amazing skills on a bike. And I predict that he will be a top contender for a long time.

Maybe the atmosphere in the sport is better overall.

You would be surprised. I was at a marketing conference recently that was talking about "failure storytelling". If you think bad attitude never sells anyone you should not look shit from hot topic to anti social social club. Or tons of personalities that made big bucks on being grumpy.

Absolutely stoked for him and the Dirt team.

One Ratboy slides away from the racing scene and a new one emerges.

I also suspect it is way easier to be chill when you arent living race to race and now you are financially set for a good time forward. Neither Gwin or Minnaar has to be worried about the future as of a few years back they are litterally freerolling their careers. They have gained enough reputation to be able to do other stuff in the industry for the rest of their working career if the financial need arise. So who wouldnt have a pretty chill approach? I would at least but when you are squeezing every cent of of your dollar on a shot at making it, it takes a certain type of person to still act like a champ.

And of course as you get older you just start to give less f*cks about everything!
