The rise of super boost plus. So I guess that is going to be a thing
I don't know why we need a new buzz word for 157mm hubs. But I've always though if we need a stiffer wheel that 148 was a pointless move and 157mm would make more sense.

I don't know why 148 ever existed cause 150mm worked for DH for years. No problems here.
it's like interval training - if you go a bit further every so often you never realize you're just getting more worked over to eventually get to the same place.

Do we really need to argue against a guy who thinks 180mm are inherently better than 203mm ones because they stay true longer? His opinion is as valid as if I tried to bash on Gwin because he doesn't ride as slow as I do.

As a songwriter from my country says, "it's important to pick and adversary who is fit enough for the conflict".

Skiing on sand, grass, water and hitting gaps over a road cycling race, the next new thing on redbull.tv

I'm doing it wrong

I honestly thought RC's piece was just pure clickbait until I dug deeper in the comments section this particular one caught my attention:

None of the sports mentioned are less risky, edgu or enjoyable than the other.
Its pretty lazy to ask why dh bikes borrow from motox. I mean why would getting down a mountain on wheels be anything like riding other machinery at speed over rough terrain?
This article is ascii for the sake of it.
Then it hit my mind: the comparison to Moto X is just another try to make ebikes fit into UCI DH events.

Oh, I just got the perfect idea to save downhill racing: Beer chugging contest mid-run. You stop, chug a huge pitcher and then proceed to complete the track.
I'm in for this.

In 20 odd years of mediocre mid-pack placings in DH, the high point of racing downhill for me was racing on my trail bike, drunk, with a broken hand in a cast, using a stolen number plate and wearing a hoody and jeans. I've been training for this...

Funny, my former club did exactly that for the club "downhill" championships. Ride down our local track and then chug a can of beer as fast as you can. Fastest combined time won. Interestingly there was a good correlation between fast riders and fast drinkers, with the exception of the semi-professional alcoholic. Was funny to see beer coming out of the noses of folks. :D And the second runs were on average faster than the first ones! :o

Well You guys look at that standard in the wrong way - 148mm hub is not the same stuff as the 150mm with 2mm shaved off. It is more like a 141mm hub + 3.5mm on each side so the hub slides into the dropouts. It is something in between the 150mm hub and 135mm hub (142mm hub is a 135mm hub with 3.5mm extensions for dropouts on each side - same chainline and so on)

Not defending it. I still thing they should go 157mm all the way on enduro bikes and this thing is totally stupid.

I get it. But why not just add the 2mm?

Width would be the same as a DH hub, sure, but both chainline and the distance from the dropout to the rotor would be different. Think of it as of 135mm hub with 6mm added between the hub flanges and 3.5mm extensions at each side, so those extensions can slide into the dropouts and stay there without the 12mm through axle being installed.

For example 157mm hub is exactly a 150mm hub with 3.5mm extensions at each side. DH equivalent would be something like a 150mm hub + 6mm extra between flanges + 2x3.5mm extensions = 163mm hub.
