Day 1 back riding the bike at Fort William, blown boxxers, brakes that pulled to the bars after 6 runs oh and a body that feels like its went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Looking forward to the rebuild in winter, parts stocking has begun.

Re. 26" forks with 27.5....I've been using my '11 888 Evo Ti with 27.5 for the last few years. Obviously not as much clearance but I haven't had anything get caught. I've considered changing forks but with the 46mm offset (which is in the same ballpark as some 27.5 specific forks out there), and since I have all the Ti springs and Avy cartridge, I don't really see the need to change.

Looking forward to seeing this thing revived regardless of what you put on it, good to see an OG monkey returning to the DH rig too!

Yeah that's a great fork (if it's the RC2, twin compression adjustments on top). Kashima is nice but not a big deal. The only thing it loses out over the newer ones is being a bit heavier, but on the bright side it's a coil as-stock, so it feels better too.

The weight savings on the new one are primarily in the lowers and crowns, and both retrofit to the 2013 if you wanted to upgrade in the future anyway. If it's a good price I'd say go for it.

They are only R's but have rebound on one leg and preload on the other, probs just hold out for a set of newer ones that are coil RC2's. They are on the bay for £440 BNIB.

you can do what I did, score the R and then dump the RC2 damper in there when you find one on ebay or pinkbike from some tool who did the avalanche "upgrade". My cart was like $130 and now I have the equivalent of an RC2, minus gold anodizing.

Yeah like Sandwich said make sure you get the RC2 either way.
Maybe best to hold out for a better option, that price isn't amazing for an R anyway.

update on the lahar resurrection thread. dusted off the sled for whistler closing weekend. dampers are a bit long in the tooth, and the front center is a couple inches shorter than what i'm used to riding these days, but damn, at 10 years old (!), it's still a happymaking chunderpig.

Which is extra funny, because the 26" ones fit a 650b wheel fine, and have a somewhat less stupid huge amount of offset.

i actually cracked my first frame at the headtube junction (nasty nose case, but hey). aaron built a replacement with a wack more carbon, saying i'd break forks before this one. evidently, did the trick. random: he ended up repairing my cracked front end and handing it off to some junior (can't recall the name), who raced it at the ft bill worlds in 2007.

side note - i was one of the lucky few (frame #007) that had a positive experience w/ aaron. he turned around the replacement within a couple weeks, and also ran a couple additional custom bits for free (delrin bb spacers to drop some grams, and updated shock mount brackets). had a few interesting exchanges. brilliant guy, but battling demons. wish i had saved the emails.

nothing official. general mismanagement, likely fueled by mental and/or drug related issues. he was staying with rob @ zerode a while back - said he was a bit off the rails, smoking bales of weed, working on anti greenhouse gas climate engineering schemes (some of it is actually published online). saw he tried to pirate a boat a couple years ago:

Nice XY, I didnt have a terrible issue the first time but about 2 years he was making the M10 frame I ordered the new one was told it was ready paid and never received nothing he vanished off the face of the planet. So in the end he was exactly what people said he was sadly.

I still think the bike is great but him as a person nope.

In other news I have been quietly building parts for the winter, have some 40's, rims and a few other bits and bobs. Need to get a shock next but not really in a massive rush tbh

As long as they're in good condition (stanchions/bushings) I don't think it matters hugely.
Just make sure they have the twin blue compression adjusters on top (newer RC2), not bottom (older RC2).

2011-2013 if you want coil, or any of the later models for air.

It's a better performing shock than most current shocks (including its replacement the X2), but possibly more importantly it's a lot more reliable, and can be had quite cheap now. It's one of Fox's best products, nothing fancy, just the end result of a long development cycle that resulted in very polished final product.
Unfortunately, companies have to release new products to maintain sales. The small-shaft RC4 is a humble (and excellent performing as stock) shock which most people wouldn't even consider because there's nothing "cool", "custom", or "exclusive" about it. Thanks to the X2, Fox sales and market acceptance has skyrocketed. One must appreciate that sales and marketing are necessary for these companies to exist and thrive, it just means that not every new design is actually the best. Many people blindly consider *all* new products to be the work of the marketing devil, others consider *all* the latest to be the greatest. I think a wise guy once said the path in the middle is often the right one, and this case is no exception.
Hi Udi, I hope the OP doesn't mind me getting a little off topic here but could you please elaborate on this. I would love to hear your opinion on this as the first thing I did when I got my V10.6 was remove the RC4 and replace it with a DHX2.
