Funner to drive, cheaper, slows down when I take my foot off the gas. Can take it out of gear and coast too. I pay better attention to road conditions in sticks. Starts on a dead battery. Limits who can borrow it! My f150 will find itself in 6th gear while we are cruising 35 mph... I've spent too much time in trucks like this... auto's drive me batty.

Ok, I can accept that answer. I am doubtful on it being cheaper these days though. I will admit my Dodge is fun to drive, but in the snow and ice taking your foot off the gas is like slapping the brakes..... Put me into a nice spin and slide this last Wednesday.

People are done with manuals and they need automatic SUVs for their short wives to drive so they can see the kids as they go roaring through the neighborhood launching off of the speedbumps.

It's fucking terrible no matter how many times you do it. It's not a "purchase", it's combat. Be pre-approved, go in angry, take no bullshit, seriously walk away the second they start games.
I tried to do this with the Vette and the wife wasn't having it. Showed up Sunday night, 15 minutes before closing (thanks Obama in Seattle), a week before Thanksgiving. I knew what it was worth, I knew what they would take for it, and the wife wanted to "just get it done and get home". Had a 4 hour drive home, so I understood. But when I walked out the second time, the wife stayed and did the deal.

She did get them to drop the $800 gap insurance because the price we paid was $5k bellow book, so there was no gap. But still paid a lot closer to asking than I would have liked.

Digging up this thread for an update. Ended up buying a brodozer. 2015 Tacoma TRD Sport DCLB 4x4. 90k miles. I bought it bone stock and lifted it ~3" with Bilstein shocks and Icon springs, and added Method wheels and BFG KO2 33" all terrains. I spent a little more than I would have on a frontier, about $28k after lift/wheels/tires, but I'm 100% happy with the decision. I test drove about 10 frontiers before I realized that I didn't actually like them all that much...

Riding the baggage carousel.
I'm using the costco process right now. May take a few months to get car delivered, but maybe a month and a half until I "pay" for it. Will let you know how it goes. So far, what you said is roughly the process for me (build on costco site and price is what's marked there, which is basically true-invoice).
Well?

I still don't understand people thinking they need to drop this kind of money on vehicles. I'm just gonna keep buying older trucks for $5000 cash and abuse them the way a truck should be abused.
:stupid:

My '92 Silverado hit 200k a few months back. Still needs a power steering pump and a new intake manifold gasket, but she runs like a top as long as fluids are topped off. It was like $2800 after the "incident". Needs tires, too. But she keeps hauling.

I do miss my little Toyota, though. I had a lot of fun building and breaking those per-Taco trucks. I might try to steal the one down the street that has had the right front wheel off for the last 4 years.

If we get the diesel stepvan for camping, I could downsize to a 88-94 22re and be quite happy. Finding one is getting tough.

Just substitute "high-end full suspension mouintain bike" for "vehicle" and... yeah. Try to keep in mind that everyone is different.
I sort of agree. But my cheap ass can justify $3k easier than $24k. $5k+ for engineless 2 wheeler is another level, might as well be talking $1M.

Hell - @Toshi changes cars more often than I change my underwear.

Her:
2001 Toyota Corolla (died)
2008 Honda Fit
2006 Toyota Prius
2013 Nissan LEAF (lease)
2012 Toyota RAV4 EV
2018 Chrysler Pacifica (Plugin) Hybrid

Me:
No vehicle
2008 Piaggio MP3 (stolen)
2008 Kawasaki Versys
2001 Acura 3.2 CL Type S

All but the two leases, minivan and the scooter were used vehicles, too.

CN: Shared Skittles has underwear with skid marks so dense that it can stand up on its own.

Yeah, going back to Watz's point, though, how many pairs of skis have you been through? :D

For me, since childhood, that'd be:

Rossignol GS-ey things, almost certainly 68 mm underfoot
Soul 7s or something in the Rossi 7 range
Mantras
Blisters

Yeah, I was actually thinking of selling it and getting a V-Strom in the weeks before someone jacked it. Just as well--insurance paid out MSRP - 10% as it was under a year old!

Volkl Snow Rangers
Fischer Watea

In 30-ish years of driving, I've owned about 7 vehicles. For the first 20 years they were almost exclusively all shitboxes. :D

$600 skis ... $10,000 cars

yea I see your point!
At least our vehicular tastes have been pretty modest thus far. I made out particularly well on the Fit and Prius transactions, only realizing ~$1k depreciation per year for each, iirc, and the profit from the gifted Acura just about equalled that.

The Land Cruiser and the RAV4 EV proved to be more expensive propositions, but it's all so that I can slowly figure out what I like... :D

In hell. Welcome!
I feel very inappropriate. I am on my 2nd car since freedum in 2003 (first car died at $225k miles) and on 2nd pair of skis (1st pair - RC4 Race SC, 2nd pair Head World Cup Rebels iSL RD), yet I claim I am a better driver and alpine skier than 99% of the US population. :D

I got tired of having a laundry list of things to fix on my car. And I'm 26, single, and financially stable so why the hell not?

And following along with the thread, since 08 I've owned:
2 cars
6 snowboards
3 pairs of skis
~10 bikes
