Hi all. Zipping up Belcher on that Pivot Shuttle is pretty damn fun, I must say. 2.5 hours door to door, 1:18 trail time, 1:13 moving, for a WR long loop.

:notbadobama:

Time to hop in the shower and think about breakfast.

was hoping to get hardtail together, something about the headset is misbehaving, will have to wait for actual fork to get in Thursday, and drop it off at the shop on Friday, and then get the brake cables shortened and bled :(

31 mile road ride in the books. It was 68* when I started and 90* by the time I finished. Averaged 16 mph on a route with lots of rollers. First ride since I pulled the calf muscle where I could stand and climb out of the saddle on moderate climbs pain free and with some power. I miss riding dirt but I know that would just tear things up again. Maybe some easy dirt rides in another month.....

Got up early to drive an hour to meet friend at the trailhead at 8:00....he arrived 5min later only to realize he forgot all his gear at home. Puttered around and waited while he drove back to get it, didn't get on the trail until about 9:15. Such is life.....at least the ride itself was pretty killer and a nice day for cruising around in the brodozer.

Came home, finished the playground area so it is ready for rubber mulch, and started digging for the patio.

Now enjoying a beer on the tiny deck and new LL Bean furniture before heading up to Maine to be with the woman and kid.

Hanging with my parents now. Gunna ride in a little bit with the dog. Dogs good for the 12 mile loop. Maybe a bit more.

I think I want a canoe.

Jesus I feel bad. Haven't been in the mountains for 2 years because of my job situation (I'm too poor). Though it feels ironic that the last time I rode a big bike was riding off a volcano at dawn on Bali. (it was shit though because a ton of hikers). I never thought I'd feel depressed because of no bike time on the big hills but I do. Need to find some cash before I lose my mind from not riding my bike, board and just sitting in the city doing shit.

Had a last minute happy couple roll in. Wound up just walking in the neighborhood again.

Tomorrow I'll head to Thuper Awethum and if there are Thunderstorms in the area, I'll go for a hike instead of riding. Trying to out hike a T-storm can be quite a workout.

Tell me more. Mine was quite reliable until the cassette managed to permanently affix itself to the freehub...
Aluminum freehub body? I rotated my cassette about 5 degrees relative to the stock aluminum freehub on my DT 350 hubs. No issues with the replacement steel freehub body.

The Stans Neo hub left me stranded and walking out in mosquito infested bush in May, after the steel drive ring in the hub body seperated from the aluminum hub body.

If you google Stans hub failures, there is a never ending supply of pictures and whatnot of hub bodies cracking in half, same issue that I had etc etc.

cleaned the garage for a long time today. much progress. more to go. it had been slowly filling up with crap for like a decade. ugh. beers have been helping.

8yo has eye surgery scheduled for weds to tighten a muscle to hopefully help his left eye stop turning in. it will hopefully help with his focus and reading down the line. he’s gonna miss a week of camp he’s been looking forward to. haven’t told him yet, as we were planning to do it later in the summer but the surgeon called on friday and said they would have to do it this week or wait for a while (problem is there’s 7-10 days downtime afterwards). ugh. next week’s calendar now fubar’d.

in other news, the oneup dropper worked well yesterday. the 3000’ of climbing in the first 6 miles of trail did toast my legs though.

Why a canoe?

That reason is one! No experience with them, just citing the obvious.
Because i would use it in calm waters and i dont think karla would like to kayak herself and a kid. Also two little kids. So i thought a three person canoe would be good for a little paddle and beers with maybe a little fishing when we go on road trips. Your thoughts?

Ride was awesome, dog had fun. Burgers for both after.

Had FANTASTIC Thai in Fort Collins.
Didn't realize that Drunken Noodles was just pad ke mao, it must be a regional nomiker?
Had the Koa Soi (sp?) (northern Thai noodle dish) and wifey got the jungle curry.
Outstanding...I have a little knowledge, my twin sister speaks fluent Thai and Laotian.
Her husband taught me to cook northern Thai with just hand motions...

Evening Monkeys. I am preparing for Dirt Church tomorrow, my first thought was a 12 mile out and back with a tough climb and a kick ass return that is basically all downhill. However I have all day to myself so I am thinking of heading to Homestake pass outside of Butte for an 18 mile ride with a less aggressive climb. Still not 100% decided but I have prepared 2 ham sammies... either way I am taking the Giggle Pig and intend to pedal everything. :)

Canoes are great for what you just described as they are very versatile boats. Very stable, large weight capacity for the family. I suggest foregoing the aluminum ones as they bake in the sun. If you can find an old 16 foot Coleman poly canoe, get it. So long as its in good condition, (no cracks or UV damage, i.e. flaking plastic, sun bleach, etc).
Make sure kids and wife can help load it.

It will be plenty big for 2 adults, kids and a dog. If you can get linking floor mats, rubber or foam, cut it to fit the bottom of the canoe for grip and the dog will thank you. Rolling foam sleeping pads work as well, can be had cheap at Wally World.

Once you get the family size canoe, you will realize you want to go by yourself sometimes and find out 16 is bigger than you need for solo so you will also end up with a 12 or 10ft canoe or SoT kayak.

Floor mats that’s good stuff. I figured I’d also buy a cheep one person kayak as well.

Craigslist is your friend. You can find good used kayaks for new, shit kayak prices if you look at the right time of year like fall and winter. Sometimes you can get a good bundle with Paddles, PFDs and Spray skirts.
I was gunna get a new canoe from rei. It’s got backrests!
