Holy heat wave Batman. I'm not going to coplain about it being over 100 here today

PHOENIX (AP) — Scorching heat radiated across the U.S. Southwest on Tuesday, setting record highs in California's Death Valley, Thermal and Palm Springs in a week that forecasters say could prove to be the region's hottest this year.

The National Weather Service said a new high of 127 degrees (52.7 Celsius) was set at California's Death Valley. Weather service forecaster Chris Outler in Las Vegas said the record broke the previous one of 126 (52 Celsius) registered for the day in 1916.

He said Las Vegas reached a high of 112 (44 Celsius) on Tuesday, but that wasn't a record for the day.

The weather service said other record highs set Tuesday included 122 (50 Celsius) in Thermal, in California's Coachella Valley, and 121 (49.4 Celsius) in Palm Springs.

I passed through las vegas late last month. I saw 116 freedom units. It wasnt so bad though because its a dry heat.

where the trails are
Vertical or linear? I mean... vertical is halfway up Chimney, and that ain't bad for a lunch ride.
Vertical, and correct location, but to the top and back would have been a better lunch ride if I wasn't still so slow. I'll be in shape by Winter!

edit: or if I took longer lunch breaks :thumb:

Gonna take kiddo to Grand Targhee to ride today.
We are going to go on the big lift (Dreamcatcher) for the first time, so that's exciting.
We will see how he does!
Well, he did great, but hit two trees pretty hard.
Spent the day working on pedal position, weight the outside pedal, float at three and six o clock, that sort of thing.
Only one trip to ski (bike?) patrol.

hey, quick poll - in your opinion what's the better short lap; Monarch/Fooses or Monarch/Agate?

edit: may as well throw Monarch/Green's in the mix too.

GO!
Either Fooses or Greens, not Agate. For numerous reasons: Agate is not only a longer ride, it's a longer shuttle with more involved vehicle logistics. The way we did it worked out perfectly based on where we were heading to camp, but that's not always the case. With Greens or Fooses, if you can get someone to take you up to Monarch pass you can just ride back to town if you have to. And while the first 2-1/2 miles of Agate are a ripping good descent, the rest of the trail doesn't have the same character, it's more uppy-downy. And while I think it's a good ride, it's not a great descent which is what I'm usually after when riding laps off the Crest. Also, water crossings. There are 23 of them, last I rode it which was a few weeks ago. Even when the water is low, that's a lot of wet feet and bottom bracket. Between Fooses and Greens, I would likely choose Fooses. Greens is super rad, but it rougher and faster. Fooses is more enjoyable all the time, to me. YMVV.

A friend of mine committed suicide Monday. She tied weights to herself, and jumped overboard from a rented sea kayak.
Strange way to go, they say it is quite peaceful after that first 'breath' of water.

In other news, the tree we want to move is toast...they can only do it when the tree is dormant, (fall) and we have the excavators coming next week.
Oh, well, I guess it's time to see how expensive a 'mature' tree is these days.

How is riding at grand targhee and are there dh bike worthy trails or is it "enduro" type trails?

Insomnia has come to bite me in the ass in turn. Brain woke up maybe 20 minutes ago and told me to get some shit done, so here I am. I have to be up for fishing in just over 3 hours anyway...

Riding is great at Targhee...but yeah, most of them lean more towards 'enduro' than full bore DH. There are a few big jump lines, and some stuff that favors a DH bike, but it is not mandatory to have fun there.
