Looks like Brendog missed the cut again, but even bigger, is this the first year Gee hasn't been sent since he started? Crazy to think a multiple DH world champ didn't make the cut.

Yeah that is strange. I guess Gee hasn't had the greatest of results lately, mostly I'm guessing due to all the injuries and crashes he's had.

Looks like he's in 24th position over all, which to be fair is that bad considering the number of racers out there.

Has Phil even done more than one race this year?

Wait, so Atwill has 1/4 the points Atherton does, and Atherton has won 2x DH Champs and 11 DH WC's, to Atwills...0.

Why is Atwill getting the nod? I want to be bummed out goddamnit.

IMO Brendog is more talented overall than anyone on that team, probably in the world, he's just a couple clicks off race pace. On top of that I don't think that Gambler is helping him get where he needs to be.

I like watching Brendog as much as the next person, but thats a stretch. Dude hasn't put up a result in the top 30's in days, and has one of the strongest factory supports there is, and is on a really fucking good bike. Talent is hard to quantify, but what isn't hard to quantify is speed and results, and anybody who was a betting person would bet on anybody else on that list over him.

Yeah idk he also does rampage which is pretty beast. I'm sure the dude is cool as hell, but his fancy new toys aren't helping him be close to a threat(BOS and prototype frame)
he is very styleish, for sure, just watch his 45 min video of himself in slow mo

Everytime I see that Scott its got a prototype linkage or redesign or running a different shock air/coil. To me that isn't the tell tale sign of a rider who is loving his bike. Hell Neko butchered up a fox 40 and threw 29 inch wheels on his Gambler and claimed it to be a big improvement?

Just have a feeling he would do better on a different bike, I could be wrong, but look at what a new bike did for guys like Brook, Norton, Vergier, and pretty much anyone racing that new Commencal V4 29.

Brendog should retire. Being a charismatic bloke who whips good and looks fast does not make a successful DH racer.
Bummer should retire too.

I wonder how many of these guys come from money (like all(?) top level auto racing), so results-based contracts aren’t what keeps em in the game?

Scott is wack, BOS seems pretty wack too.

I'm glad you weren't dishing out career advice when Blenki was in a slump...

Sure, Brendog hasn't cracked the top 20 this year (21st at Fort Bill his best result AFAIK) but he's had some bad luck (DSQ at Leogang), some some shit tracks (Losinj) not to mention all the young guys just smashing it this year. He's still got the pace and the fact that he's such a versatile rider is a sponsor's wet dream. Why not keep riding the gravy train?

I do wonder about the Scott/BOS set up though...

"All the young guys smashing it this year"? So what you're saying is he'd be higher up if it wasn't for the fact that other people were consistently faster than him? No shit, that's racing dude.

I love watching the guy ride, and his current bike looks absolutely fantastic with that prototype frame, big USD fork (which is probably unridabru as fuck) and shiny TRP brakes, but like Gee his career as a competitive racer is clearly over.

No, dude. I actually said that 'all the young guys smashing it this year' was one of three factors why I think he's been outside the top 20... read my post again and stop cherry picking.

Again, look at Blenki and take his 2016 season for example. One top ten on the old skool favourite MSA, in the top 30 once, and then outside the top 30 for the rest of the season. Brook Macdonald has had a similar trajectory. By your rationale, these guys' careers as competitive racers would have been over in 2016... People bounce back.

S'pose it all depends how far back you think he can bounce to

WC top 15s 2016?
WC top 10s 2015?
top 10s 2007/8/9/10/12/13?
3rd Champery 2010? 5th Schladming 2006? 3rd Pila 2003?

Might need a DeLorean to get on the box again

I donno, I don't like shitting on brendog, and I really like that he's still on the WC circuit with a major sponsor. Even if come actual race time I don't care, there's always good video and pictures of him. I'd rather not get on the bandwagon of "that dude needs to retire blahblahblah"

But a worlds team spot he doesn't deserve. That's for the fastest people the country has to offer.

Which is why its puzzling that Gee doesn't have a spot.

Yeah, agreed that Brendog doesn't deserve a spot on the world's team. Think the calls for him to retire are premature though.

Agreed, he brings a lot of life and vibrancy to the WC scene. Peat wasn't putting up huge results toward the tail end of his career, but I was still happy to see him around. Long as he (Brendog) is still going fast enough to qualify and earn spots at the races, more power to him and I'm happy to watch and see him continue to be sponsored.

Neko is still an 'also ran' in WCs despite sharing the same bike as gwinn.
tl:dr: It's not the bike.

I see brendon's role as a branding and r&d tool.
He's a crowd favorite due to his style and his ability to perform in varied events.
From a marketing perspective he's more valuable than any pure WC racer that never makes the podium.

Yeah wtf? He's still doing better than plenty of other riders. Plus he's a sponsor's wet dream style and coverage wise. Why the hell would he retire?

If you had to retire the moment you weren't a top 10 threat there's plenty of riders that would have been gone a long time ago.

Besides - he doesn't seem to like enduro, what would he do with the rest of his life?

remember when the team was called scott 11? i wonder why there are not so many other riders still on that team. maybe has something to do with brendog's not so small salary?

Brendog is getting views, excitement, and hype. Somebody going 2-3s faster wouldn't necessarily earn that for Scott, even if they're getting better results for it. Long as he's earning his bread with being rad, I got no problems with Scott making a business decision and deciding that the attention he draws for the brand is better than a different racer drawing less attention and moving up a few spots.

Look at Pierron - dude is on a fucking warpath this season, crazy fast and getting rad, #1 in the WC rankings, and Brendog is pulling an equal amount of attention.

Anyway, Gary, I honestly don't care to read the British rules on their national champ team rider choices. Whoever wrote them was stupid, and I'm going to make fun of them for it. I don't need to know the specifics of why Gee didn't get chosen, just that it was dumb of them not to choose him.

The Athertons have more world cup/world champs wins than the rest of the country combined and I don't see that changing. Stupid to not have Gee. The odds are stacked against his replacement even going top 15, Greenland and Hart are the only two with a punchers chance.

Not as dumb as making fun of rules you haven't even bothered to read.
Gee will have known the selection criteria since he was first picked for team GB as a junior... it wouldn't have been a surprise to him.

For guys like Fariclough, racing is probably just a part of the whole program. Videos, followers, etc. - exposure and views are important to sponsors, I'd think.

Athertons were cashing some big checks for a long time. I'm sure they're A-OK.

Just because people know the rules doesn't mean the rules aren't dumb. Gee probably did know that he wasn't going to make it on the team. That doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid decision, and a stupid rule that kept him from it. Just because "it's the rules" doesn't mean that somebody else has a higher chance of success than a two time world champ winner, multiple world cup winner, and somebody who has more UCI points than they do.

The "fastest guys" should have had the skill to make it down the mountain on those days. No one jumped out of the woods and tossed a stick in their spokes.

OMG. RTFM or STFU

Have I ever said I agree with BCs TEAM GB selection criteria? No. Infact. It's fairly obvious if you read my earlier comments that I don't. But I have at least taken the time to actually read exactly what that criteria is. You sound dumb as fuck whining on about a ruling you haven't even bothered to read.
