I had some buddies that were on their way back from Alaska and got stuck in Seatac while the fiasco happened. They were 2 days late to getting home and the luggage and 80lbs of fish showed up 5 days later, all rotten of course.
2 days late because of a 1.5hr ground stop? Damn. 80lbs of fish is a lot.

"Save the tapes"

What kind of bumble fuck airport doesn't have a perimeter road for vehicles? Surely the Springfield MO airport can't be so large as to justify crossing an active runway in a car. :fie:
"A report filed by Jim Brown, driver of the van, indicates he and two other people were taking the van to an airport employee barbecue. The Springfield News-Leader obtained the report through a Sunshine Law request.

"I decided that due to the time limitations we would cross the runway in order to make it in time," Brown wrote in his report."

What gets me even more is ground control clearance to cross.... ...that would be a serious WTF???
That's what the van driver says.

That's why "save the tape".

Many moons ago, when I was but a young lad with a freshly minted A&P, I got cleared across a runway taxing a small plane (a Piper Cherokee IIRC). Get about half way across and all the sudden all sorts of commotion, tower is saying things in a pretty heated manner, and I hear another airplane go right over head. Not sure how I didn't see it on approach, but there it was anyway. Got told to "contact the tower by phone", which is never a good thing. So I park, tell my boss what happened, make phone call. Lots of "yes you did"/"no I didn't" type of back and forth, I ask for someone to review the communications and get told "We will be in touch". I go home that evening and proceed to get good and drunk, and spend most of the night staring at the ceiling thinking I fucked up and almost died, even though I was 99% sure I'd been cleared to cross.

Got into work the next morning and was informed by my boss that the controller had been suspended. I never heard another word about the incident from anyone. Found out sometime later that the Troutdale Airport, had a shockingly high rate of "incursions", despite it's relatively small size. This may have had more to do with how close it was to PDX, but still, yet another bullet I somehow managed to dodge. :twitch:

I know what he said. My point, is what exactly did they save? Two minutes? That's just lazy and dumb.
ATC tapes of radar and voice are available for 60 days, however, in a situation like this, I'm sure they've already been isolated by QC and they will be kept much longer, since this is no doubt being investigated by them.

This seems like the appropriate thread for this...

I hope this wasn't the result of @Pesqueeb eating at a Jack in the Box
I don't even know if there is a jack in the box in this town. Somewhere buried in the depths of ridemonkey is a story about one of my first days on the job and a rather senile old man doing a shit smearing walk of shame down the aisle of an EMB-120.
